Target: Roger Ailes, President of Fox News Channel
Goal: Force Fox News analyst to resign for asking her listeners to physically attack Obama supporters
On her Thursday, May 23rd show on Fox News, political analyst Andrea Tantaros became heated and asked her listeners to do her a favor: to physically attack Obama supporters. During a discussion on the Obama administration’s inquiries into Fox News policies she stated, “This is what’s happening to our press. This is Obama’s America! It’s like the Soviet Union. He said he would change the country. He said it. And a lot of people voted for him. And if you see any of those people today, do me a favor, punch them in the face.”
A caller phoned in directly after to state that, while he agrees with Tantaros’ criticisms of the president, he urged her to take back her statement of violence. She responded by stating that she wasn’t asking listeners to attack the president (as that would be illegal), but to “smack down” anybody that had voted for Obama.
These returns to McCarthy-era accusations against the Obama administration are becoming quite commonplace, yet inciting violence against citizens for their political beliefs is unprecedented and goes against the ideals of the American political system. As American principles of government rely on multiple parties in order to achieve a fair government, calling for the physical attack on members of an opposing political party is wholly unacceptable. Sign this petition to demand the termination of Andrea Tantaros for her comments against American citizens, and send Fox News a message: political preference should never be met with violence.
Dear Roger Ailes,
On her Thursday, May 23rd show, Andrea Tantaros recently asked listeners to physically assault supporters of the Democratic Party. She said to listeners, “if you see any of those people today, do me a favor, punch them in the face” regarding citizens who voted for Obama. Attempting to incite violence against American citizens due to political beliefs is unacceptable.
Political freedom is a value of American government and society — and no citizen should fear physical aggression based on political choice. Even a supporter of Tantaros’ show called in, asking her to rescind her violent statement. While I agree with Tantaros’ right to be angry with the Obama administration, she has no right to request violence against any citizen. I urge you to terminate her position as a newscaster, as her statements are anti-American in and of themselves. Calling for violence based on political belief is a horrendous act and should not be allowed in any shape or form.
