Target: High school student Alyssa Moore
Goal: Praise Alyssa Moore for her animal rights activism and for setting an example for other teenagers
California high school student Alyssa Moore recently made headlines after she interrupted a student rally that was going to use a live chicken for entertainment. At age 17 she is already actively involved in animal rights and practices a cruelty-free lifestyle. For her activism and for being a role model for teenagers and young adults, Alyssa deserves our praise.
Alyssa’s understanding of Animal rights is particularly astute. When asked about the difference between animal welfare and animal rights she said, “When a person believes in animal welfare it means they accept animal use, and possibly abuse, if the treatment was deemed ‘humane,’” and that believing in animal rights means you “don’t think it is justifiable under any circumstances to use or abuse animals for food, clothing, or entertainment.”
Alyssa got the chance to put her beliefs into action when she discovered that a live chicken was going to be used as entertainment during a school rally. The chicken had been placed in a wire enclosure and was to be released so that teams of students with their legs taped together could try to be the first to capture it. When Moore discovered what was about to happen she pleaded with the school administrators not to go through with it, but they proceeded. That’s when she decided to take matters into her own hands by entering the pen and keeping the participants away from the chicken. Her quick thinking was a success.
With the help of a friend, Alyssa has also started a club called Earth Alliance, which holds weekly meetings to discuss environmental issues, animal rights, and plan fundraising events. There is no doubt that Alyssa will soon make great strides in animal rights. Please sign the petition below to thank her for the impact she has already made on California youth.
Dear Alyssa Moore,
You recently made headlines after you halted a school rally at Maria Carillo High School because a chicken was to be used as entertainment. The notoriety you have received is certainly well deserved. Not only did protect the life of the chicken and risk being reprimanded by the school, you showed hundreds of students that animals shouldn’t be used for entertainment.
The extent of your activism does not end there. You have also organized clubs, fundraisers, and strive to live a cruelty-free lifestyle. You truly are an example for youth around the country and I wish you nothing but success in all of your future pursuits to protect the lives of animals.
