Target: Arbitrator Jeanne Wood and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement
Goal: Permanently fire and revoke the certification of Florida’s most disciplined, arrested, fired, and fined police officer.
Sergeant German Bosque, a man dubbed “Florida’s Dirtiest Cop,” has been fired from three Florida police departments a total of eight times. He certainly appears to have earned that title considering he has been the target of investigations regarding accusations “of cracking the head of a handcuffed suspect, beating juveniles, hiding drugs in his police car, stealing from suspects, defying direct orders and lying and falsifying police reports,” as well as conducting unauthorized police chases which left four people dead. The most recent firing from Opa-Locka Police Department (the sixth attempt from this particular department) is a result of Bosque’s decision to leave his police issued AR-15 assault rifle and bullet proof vest with the “POLICE” insignia with his girlfriend’s father while on leave last year. Bosque responded, “And they want to fire me over that? That’s the least I’ve been fired for.” Bosque is also under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for conducting background checks while off duty, among other offenses. Because he is under investigation, Bosque is on a leave of duty with pay.
When a Herald-Tribune reporter told Bosque that he holds the record of investigations of misconduct, he “lit up” and said, “I can’t believe that. I’m trying not to smile. I just…damn!” With a record of Florida’s most disciplined, arrested, fired, and fined police officer, many are left wondering why he would ever be allowed to wear a badge again. Many cite Bosque’s guaranteed union representation in court, his political connections in Opa-Locka, and a series of legal loopholes as at least partially to blame in the situation. One thing is certain, however, and that is with his arrogant attitude and history of dangerous behavior, German Bosque deserves to be permanently stripped of his badge.
Jeanne Wood, the arbitrator in Bosque’s current case, has 60-90 days to issue a decision on Bosque’s future career. The FDLE meanwhile is expected to revoke his license in an upcoming decertification hearing. Sign the petition below to tell Wood and the FDLE that you will not stand for Bosque’s reprehensible behavior and demand that he be permanently fired from the force.
Dear Jeanne Wood and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement,
Three arrests, eight firings, 40 police investigations, accusations of beating suspects, stealing cars, possessing drug paraphernalia and counterfeit money, using excessive force, causing a car crash and then covering it up, slapping a minor until his face was swollen, and conducting an unauthorized police chase which left four people dead — this list of despicable behavior is only the beginning of German Bosque’s record as a police officer. An individual with a job outside of the police department who committed even one of these offenses would be immediately fired from his or her job. For Bosque, however, this list appears to be a source of pride, or at least an excuse to take a series of paid vacations on the taxpayers’ dime.
When a Herald-Tribune reporter told Bosque that he holds the record of investigations of misconduct, he “lit up” and said, “I can’t believe that. I’m trying not to smile. I just…damn!” As for his latest decision to leave his police issued AR-15 assault rifle and bullet proof vest with the “POLICE” insignia with his girlfriend’s father while on leave last year, Bosque says, “And they want to fire me over that? That’s the least I’ve been fired for.”
German Bosque is Florida’s most disciplined, arrested, fired, and fined police officer, yet he has somehow managed to work the system so that he may continue to wear the badge and wield a gun. His arrogance and reprehensible behavior not only bring shame to the officers who perform their jobs with integrity, but they have also proved Bosque a threat to the safety of citizens. We demand that Bosque be fired from the police force and have his certification permanently revoked.
