Target: Governor John Kasich of Ohio
Goal: Stop the plan to expand fracking in Ohio
A recent proposal in Ohio would expand the number of fracking wells to over 4,000 in the next four years. There is no safe way to obtain natural gas through hydraulic fracturing and the environmental repercussions are endless. Fracking leads to environmental pollution in both the water and air.
The process of fracking leads to the production of toxic components as well as radiation. There is no safe way to dispose of the by products of fracking and they are constantly seeping into groundwater and leaking into public rivers causing alarming health problems to surrounding populations.
Another by-product of fracking is the seepage of natural methane gas in groundwater. The concentrations are so severe that tap water going into people’s homes has been known to catch on fire. This methane gas is polluting our air quality as well, leading to severe health problems to those who breathe it in.
Fracking is also known to cause changes in the climate. The methane that leaks from the fracking process is a gas that leads heavily to the greenhouse effect. This leads to alarming changes in the climate that contribute to severe environmental consequences.
Additionally, fracking is known to have caused earthquakes in areas that normally experience no seismic activity. This is caused by the high pressure injection of fracking wastewater deep beneath the surface of the Earth. So far, fracking has been linked to 50 earthquakes in Oklahoma as well as dozens more in Arkansas.
The consequences of fracking are widespread as well as alarming. The failure to cease this senseless process will continue to devastate our environment and the results will only become increasingly worse. Fracking is a process that needs to be eliminated completely, starting in Ohio.
Dear Governor John Kasich of Ohio,
Fracking has serious environmental consequences that will further be exacerbated if the plan to expand the fracking areas in Ohio is approved. The by products of fracking are already being felt across the nation. If practices like this are not eliminated soon, we will be faced with extreme environmental issues in the near future.
If fracking continues to take place we will eventually run out of resources that are safe to consume. Toxic chemicals are already being leached into our groundwater making consumption of it by nearby communities extremely dangerous. The further the process of fracking expands, the further the consequences of fracking will reach.
Furthermore, the balance of our environment including the climate patterns, will be at risk. Methane gas is constantly leaking into our environment due to the process of fracking. The air quality is continuously decreasing making the effects of fracking far reaching. Continuing this detrimental process is only further threatening the quality of life that we take for granted today such the air we breathe and the water we drink.
If we do not stop the practice of fracking we will create problems that cannot be reversed. Fracking threatens the quality of our environment, and the failure to prevent further destruction is neglectful of our responsibility to protect the Earth and its resources. The proposal to expand the process of fracking must be rejected.
