Target: Judson Phillips
Goal: Condemn Tea Party leader for blaming the recent Boston Marathon bombings on the president
In response to the recent bombings at the Boston marathon, Tea Party founder Judson Phillips blamed President Obama for the bombings. He stated that the tragedy occurred because the government is not committed to protecting America, since leaders have not committed to destroying radical Islam. He stated that radical Islam and perhaps even non-radical Islam is a danger to western civilization, and that Barack Obama is out to destroy America. The Boston marathon bombings were a national tragedy and Philips should be widely criticized for construing the tragedy into a scheme to divide the nation at a time when we should be united.
A few days before President Obama’s inauguration, Phillips warned supporters that “Barack Obama wants to destroy America.” After the Boston bombings, Phillips sent an email to Tea Party members and posted on the Tea Party Nation website stating that the Boston Marathon bombings were the President’s fault and occurred because the administration is not committed to destroying radical Islam, the enemy. Mr. Phillips was very clear that this is an ideological war and that we need to recognize Islam as our enemy.
Phillips has repeatedly proven himself to be a controversial figure. For example, Phillips called the National Jewish Democratic Council a Nazi group that, like other liberals, is “in love with totalitarian regimes” like Hitler’s Germany. After the Sandy Hook massacre, Phillips called teachers’ unions a “focus of evil” that turns schools into targets for lunatics and terrorists. From this perspective, his statements following the Boston bombing are not surprising. Mr. Phillips is perpetuating a culture of hate and further dividing the nation at a time when we need to stand together. He should be criticized and condemned for these actions and the public needs to discourage him from future comments like these.
Dear Judson Phillips,
A few days before President Obama’s inauguration, you warned supporters that “Barack Obama wants to destroy America.” After the Boston bombings, you blamed President Obama for the incident, stating that the tragedy occurred because the administration wants to destroy America. You are perpetuating a culture of hate and should be criticized and condemned for this. You have repeatedly proven yourself to be a dividing figure, like for example, after the Sandy Hook massacre when you called teachers’ unions a “focus of evil” that turns schools into targets for lunatics and terrorists.
You are entitled to your opinions, however publicizing and spreading these ideas in the alarmist way you have been propagates hatred and divides the country. Your comments after the Boston bombing are inappropriate and unacceptable. This petition is to criticize and condemn you for your words and to ask that in the future, you express your views in a constructive way that does not further divide the country at a time when we so desperately need to stick together.
