Recommend Boston Hero for Presidential Citizens Medal

boston

Target: President Obama

Goal: Award Carlos Arrendono the Presidential Citizens Medal for his brave and selfless actions during the Boston Marathon bombings.

Carlos Arrendono, a Costa Rican-American peace activist and Red Cross volunteer who was present at the recent Boston Marathon bombings, was supporting a runner who was participating in honor of his son’s death in Iraq.  After witnessing the blasts, Mr. Arrendono ran to the site of the explosion without any regard for his own safety and immediately began to help emergency responders.  He helped move people to safety, calmed the injured with soothing words, and even applied his own clothing to major injuries in order to slow the loss of blood.  It is these selfless acts of bravery and exemplary deeds that should earn him the Presidential Citizens Medal.

The Presidential Citizens Medal is the second highest civilian award in the United States. It is given to those “who [have] performed exemplary deeds or services for his or her country or fellow citizens.”  In the wake of the shocking and horrific bombings, Mr. Arrendono’s actions to not only help his fellow citizens medically and mentally, but also support overloaded emergency responders cope with the massive influx of injuries, are more than enough to merit this honorable distinction.

It is actions like these that remind all Americans that we, as a country, are truly one community willing to endanger ourselves for the safety of total strangers. Please sign this petition, recognize Carlos Arrendono’s selfless acts, and recommend him for the Presidential Citizens Medal.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Obama,

Carlos Arrendono was a man attending the recent Boston Marathon bombings, supporting a runner who was honoring his son’s 2004 death in Iraq. After witnessing the explosion, Mr. Arrendono ran to the scene with no regard for his own safety and began to help the frantic emergency responders. He helped move people to safety, calmed the injured with soothing words, and even applied his own clothing to major injuries in order to slow the loss of blood.  It is these selfless acts of bravery and “exemplary deeds” that should recommend him for the Presidential Citizens Medal.

It is actions like these that remind all Americans that we, as a country, are truly one community willing to endanger ourselves for the safety of total strangers. Please sign this petition, recognize Carlos Arrendono’s selfless acts, and award him for the Presidential Citizens Medal.

Not only is this an inspirational and truly heart warming story, but it is also a symbol of American unity and love for our neighbors.

Please award Mr. Arrendono the Presidential Citizens Medal for his actions in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Sincerely,
