Target: Leaders at Stop Animal Exploitation Now (SAEN) and In Defense of Animals (IDA)
Goal: Pledge support for Animal Liberation Week to raise awareness about cruel animal testing
World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week and World Week for Animals in Labs are organized by the non-profit groups Stop Animal Exploitation Now (SAEN) and In Defense of Animals (IDA). The groups claim to defend the millions of animals that are cruelly exploited and killed in labs throughout the country each year. In particular, the groups attempt to draw attention to violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA) by conducting investigations and acting as whistleblowers.
Animal rights advocates point out that animals are rarely reliable test models for products used by humans. No animal anatomy, whether internal or external, exactly replicates that of a human. For this reason, alongside proven cases of hapless cruelty, activists believe animal testing should cease completely, especially for products like pharmaceutical drugs and cosmetics. One statistic shows that 92 percent of pharmaceutical drugs tested positively on animals fail in human trials.
Activists from SAEN and IDA encourage supporters to take part in Animal Liberation Week events. These include lectures, readings, film screenings, presentations and protests throughout the nation. They also encourage donations to cruelty-free research organizations from those who are financially able. These organizations are particularly special because they investigate complicated human diseases like AIDs and Alzheimer’s without using animal-based research. Supporters may also be interested in the American Fund for Alternatives to Animal Research (AFAAR).
Finally, proponents of cruelty-free business practices can pledge to buy products with the “Leaping Bunny” label, designating items that have not been tested on animals and do not contain animal by-products. Sign this petition to pledge your support of Animal Liberation Week. Attend animal rights events, look into cruelty-free products and organizations, and encourage others to do the same.
Dear Animal Rights Leaders,
World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week and World Week for Animals in Labs are brave efforts in defense of the defenseless. Animal abuse is a scourge on human society, and it must end. This letter is a pledge to take part in Animal Liberation Week activities by attending an event, purchasing only cruelty-free products, including drugs and cosmetics, donating to cruelty-free research funds, and spreading the word about animal rights and animal liberation.
I thank members of SAEN and IDA for their tireless support of animal rights advocacy and education. I pledge to do my part to make the United States a cruelty-free country.
