Applaud NASA Scientist for His Dedication to Fighting Climate Change

Target: NASA Scientist James Hansen

Goal: Commend NASA scientist James Hansen for his decision to leave NASA to dedicate himself to the fight against climate change.

After almost half a century at NASA, James Hansen, the earliest scientist credited for raising awareness over human-caused climate change, has announced that he’s leaving his government job so that he can dedicate his time to the climate movement. Mr. Hansen has always spoke bluntly about climate change, from 1988 when he told Congress “to stop waffling so much and say the planet was warming,” to his activism against damaging projects like Keystone XL to the point of risking arrest. Mr. Hansen should be commended for his commitment to this critically important cause and serve as a model for other activists to follow.

Mr. Hansen has made it clear the only way for him to meaningfully participate in real change in climate progress is to step outside the government so that he can more fully join the political and legal fight. He stated that “as a government employee, you can’t testify against the government.” His work has often been attacked by climate change skeptics, while his activism has also brought him into conflict with the federal government, most notably under the George W. Bush administration.

Mr. Hansen’s decision to give up his prestigious position to help the public understand the urgency of addressing climate change is an inspirational model to environmental activists everywhere and he should be honored and applauded for this decision. Others need to follow his example and work to get people to understand climate change and put pressure on the political system to make greatly needed changes.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Hansen,

Your recently announced decision to give up your prestigious position at NASA to address the urgency of climate change is a model to environmental activists everywhere and we applaud you for your commitment. Your stated belief that you need to step outside the government in order to fully join the political and legal fight is justified and your example is an inspiration to others as we fight for action against climate change.

This petition’s purpose is to applaud you for your efforts in the climate change movement , from 1988 when you told Congress “to stop waffling so much and say the planet was warming,” to your activism against damaging projects like Keystone XL to the point of risking arrest, to your recent decision to leave NASA to dedicate yourself to this cause. Thank you for your unrelenting efforts to make the climate change movement more powerful.
Sincerely,

I suppose it is a start that he will no longer be able to use the authority of NASA to try to peddle his AGW claptrap, and that at least HE thinks the govt. is not doing enough to kill off industry. I guess he has already worked out how to continue to live on public money, though, despite doing all he can to prevent anyone having a job and paying taxes.

  2. J Davidson says:

Mr. Hansen has worked, sacrificed and experimented painstakingly for many years and is a great, dedicated scientist. He is one of the most important experts on climatology and we must pay attention.
