Applaud Texas for Voting to Ban the Use of Gas Chambers in Animal Shelters

Target: Texas State Senate

Goal: To thank the state for voting to ban animal shelter euthanasia by gassing

The Texas State Senate has voted all in favor of banning the use of gas chambers in animal shelters. Many shelters in the state have still been using the chambers to euthanize animals that have little to no chance of being adopted. The process of euthanizing an animal in a gas chamber is a cruel way to allow an animal to die and we should applaud Texas for voting to ban this process.

This method of euthanasia in Texas animal shelters is a cruel punishment to the victims. They are forced into a metal box while carbon monoxide is dispersed from a vent to invade their lungs. The process of gassing an animal in a chamber is not always 100% effective. Many pets have been known to survive the gassing process, which has been seen as an economically smart way of shrinking shelter populations.

Texas seems to be unanimously favoring the bill that will ban this cruel euthanasia procedure, but it will still need to be heard on the House floor before it becomes a law. We need to keep up the support for this bill so that Texas can stop the cruel torture of the animals in its shelters. Sign the petition below to show your support.

Dear Texas State Senate,

The animals in your shelters that have dismal adoption futures have often been euthanized in disgusting ways. The method of gassing an animal in a chamber is an outdated and cruel way of ending their lives. While shelters may see it as an economically responsible way of shrinking the population of unadoptable animals, the victims often suffer from extreme distress during their final moments alive.

By voting all in favor of the bill that will ban this process, your state is sparing the animals that will be euthanized in the future from incredible suffering. During gassing, animals are forced into small metal boxes where carbon monoxide invades their organs. This process isn’t even completely guaranteed since many animals have been known to survive gassings.

Your state has the support you will need to take this bill to the House floor so that it can officially become illegal for an animal to be placed in a gas chamber. We want to thank you for your hard work in ridding your state of this completely outdated and cruel practice.

  2. Johanna Schwarzere says:

  3. Sharon beller says:

Someone once told me all this was ok because”god have us earth & animal kingdom for us to enjoy” well, I’m sorry. If that joy comes from cruel acts of domination? I’m not aware of any god approving that. We were to live in harmony. And respect the riches of earth.
