Target: Just One Day
Goal: Thank Just One Day for reducing the unnecessary euthanasia of pets in animal shelters and rescues.
The organization Just One Day hopes to stop all euthanasia in animal shelters and rescues for an entire 24 hours. More than 10,000 cats and dogs are put down each and every day in the United States and by stopping euthanasia for a day, thousands of animals can be saved. Just One Day has already gotten hundreds of animal shelters and rescues to commit to stopping euthanasia on June 11 and instead spend the funds allocated for euthanasia to increase adoption efforts and find the animals new homes.
It costs animal shelters and rescues more than $100 to euthanize an animal. However, for about half that price, the animal can be spayed or neutered and marketed for adoption. Just One Day uses this financial incentive to help stop the slaughter of thousands of animals every year across the nation. Last year, more than 600 shelters and rescues committed to being “No Kill” for a day, which saved thousands of animals from being put to death. The organization aims to demonstrate that if euthanasia can be stopped for a day, it can also be stopped permanently.
Pets in this country deserve a chance to be adopted into loving homes. By ending euthanasia for Just One Day, pets are finding loving homes every year rather than being put down. Please sign this petition to demonstrate your support for Just One Day.
Dear Just One Day,
Your organization has helped to save the lives of thousands of animals. As you know, more than 10,000 pets are euthanized each day in this country at animal shelters and rescues because of funding issues, limited space, and negligent owners. However, your organization is committed to making this country “No Kill” for at least one day every year. Thank you for making this commitment to American pets.
By encouraging animal shelters and rescues to sign a pledge not to euthanize any animals for a day, you are demonstrating that it is possible to stop the incessant killing of cats and dogs in our country. Not only do you encourage shelters and rescues not to kill any animals on June 11, but you also have suggested that those funds be redirected towards promoting adoption. For half the price of being put down, an animal can instead be spayed or neutered and marketed for adoption. Last year, more than 600 animal shelters and rescues signed the pledge, and hundreds have already signed for this year. Thousands of animals are being saved because of your commitment.Your efforts and ingenuity are truly commendable.
Thank you for showing the public that animals are not disposable and that shelter dogs and cats make wonderful pets.
