Target: Filmmaker Andrew Eisen
Goal: Praise Eisen for his new video which uses parody to show just how much would change if gay marriage were to be legalized
With anti-gay marriage bills such as Proposition 8 currently being put forth before the Supreme Court, internet sensation Andrew Eisen, best known for his YouTube parody videos, has decided to release a new video showcasing just how much our world would “change” should such bills be defeated and gay marriage legalized.
The video, featuring Mr. Eisen casually eating a bowl of cereal and doing the morning crossword puzzle, is presented in a “before and after” format, suggesting that Mr. Eisen believes the legalization of gay marriage would bring about a lot of negative change. However, when the “after” segment plays out in the exact same manner as the “before” segment, Mr. Eisen’s true message is revealed: the legalization of gay marriage wouldn’t cause the sky to start falling and it wouldn’t herald the end of days. All it would do is give equal marriage rights to a demographic who never should have been denied such rights in the first place.
Mr. Eisen’s video manages to support gay marriage without attacking opposing viewpoints (at least not directly) and should be held as an important example of proper gay-rights advocacy. Help praise and support both Mr. Eisen and his video by signing this petition letter.
Dear Andrew Eisen,
You should be applauded for your clever and satirical parody video pertaining to the supposed changes that would be brought about should gay marriage be legalized. It’s such an odd thing to consider that so many individuals who oppose gay marriage have nothing but the text from a six thousand year old book to back their claims but, hopefully, your video will help convince some just how ridiculous their standpoint is.
It will be a fine day indeed when religion isn’t being used to condemn a demographic who can’t help how they feel but who also shouldn’t be afraid of expressing their feelings. I know in the long run your video is just a small splash in the vast churning ocean that is the fight for gay marriage rights, but even a small splash can make ripples. By singing this petition letter, I am personally thanking you for making your video and expressing my hope that you’ll continue to advocate for equality using your gift for comedy.
