Target: Robert Zimmerman Jr.
Goal: Condemn Robert Zimmerman Jr. for his racist tweets, in which he compared Trayvon Martin to an alleged murderer and called all black people “risky”.
Robert Zimmerman Jr. recently treated his Twitter followers to a racist diatribe in which he described black people as threatening. Robert Zimmerman Jr. is the brother of George Zimmerman, a Florida man who was shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February of last year. George Zimmerman is currently awaiting trial. His defense is allegedly built around the idea that Zimmerman was attacked by Martin and was forced to shoot for self-preservation, and not because Zimmerman maintains a racial hatred for black people and believes all black people to be a threat.
While Robert Zimmerman Jr.’s recent comments may not affect his brother’s case, they do not help it either. Zimmerman Jr. tweeted an image via his personal twitter, comparing Trayvon Martin to De’Marquise Elkins, suspected infant murderer. He also stated that there were valid reasons to think “blacks mightB [sic] risky” – the reasons apparently being “rampant” black crime.
Robert Zimmerman Jr. is not on trial for Trayvon Martin’s death. He should, however, be held accountable for his offensive, bigoted ideologies – ideologies that suggest a deep-set racial hatred within the Zimmerman family. Sign the petition below to condemn Robert Zimmerman Jr. for his racist tweets.
Dear Mr. Zimmerman Jr.,
Recently, you treated your Twitter followers and the general public to a racist diatribe in which you suggested that black people are threatening, and that there are valid reasons why people feel that black people are “risky.” You compared an image of Trayvon Martin – who was unarmed at the time of his shooting – to an image of De’Marquise Elkins, suspected infant murderer. You also made it clear that you believed Trayvon Martin to be a murderer.
These remarks are highly offensive and bigoted. Moreover, they suggest a serious problem within you and your family – racial hatred. You openly and freely discuss your loathing of black people, while likening a shooting victim to a suspected murderer. You must be held accountable for this disgraceful behavior. I am writing today to condemn you for the racist tweets you released, and to demand that you rescind them immediately.
