Support Same-Sex Marriage in Rhode Island

Target: Rhode Island State Senate

Goal: Legalize same-sex marriage in Rhode Island

Recently, a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage was introduced to the Rhode Island state senate. The bill was passed by the House, and only needs the Senate’s support to become law. Legalizing same-sex marriage will be a tremendous step forward for LGBT rights. Many people in the state support same-sex marriages, and so the Senate should legalize it.

LGBT rights have been a major issue in the United States. While many people do not support equal rights, a large number of people do believe that sexual orientation should not bar anyone from the right to marry who they want. The majority of mayors in Rhode Island have publicly supported same-sex marriage. They have all agreed that it is important not to deny any citizen the right to marry. Equality is an important issue that should not be ignored by anyone. The mayors supporting the right to marry are helping to bring this equality to Rhode Island.

Currently, only nine states have legalized same-sex marriage, while thirty have passed constitutional amendments to ban it. LGBT people have faced tremendous challenges as they seek equality. The Rhode Island senate has a chance to change this particular challenge into a victory. In a state where same-sex marriages are already legally recognized, they should also be legal to be performed. Tell the Rhode Island senate that it is important to give equal rights to all citizens, and same-sex marriages must be legalized.

Dear Rhode Island State Senate:

Recently, a bill was introduced to you that will legalize same-sex marriages in Rhode Island. Same-sex marriages performed in other states are already recognized, but they may not currently be performed in Rhode Island. This bill has already been passed by the Rhode Island House and has support from the majority of mayors in the state. It only needs support from the senate to be passed into law.

I ask you to support this bill. No citizen should ever be denied the right to marry. Many people support this step towards equality. LGBT people in the United States have faced many challenges as they have fought for equality. You have the opportunity to change this challenge into a victory. Support the bill and support equal rights.
