Target: David Genecov, a Texas doctor
Goal: Thank Dr. Genecov for performing free surgery to remove tumors from the face of a young African girl.
Patience Adu, a ten-year-old girl from Ghana, has grown up with large, benign tumors on the inside of her cheek. This rare facial abnormality, called Lymphangioma, is not cancerous but it has caused Adu plenty of pain. She is obliged to eat very little in order to avoid exacerbating any physical discomfort. In addition, because of the location of the tumors and their exposure to both food and outside factors, they are highly susceptible to bacteria that could lead to infection. Furthermore, Adu describes how the large, swollen appearance of her face has led to teasing by other children at the orphanage where she lives. She relates how the children would be “laughing at [her],” causing her self-consciousness and embarrassment.
Hearing of Adu’s rare deformity, however, a doctor in Dallas, Texas has decided to help. Dr. David Genecov has extended his services to Adu, offering her free surgery to remove the tumors. Dr. Genecov explains that the surgery is a relatively simple one, but is not readily available in Adu’s home country of Ghana. Furthermore, as an orphan living in the Village of Hope orphanage, Adu’s options are even more limited. Wanting to help the otherwise hopeless girl, Dr. Genecov has offered her free surgery to remove the tumors. Only one operation is required to fully remove the tumors, and Adu is expected to make a complete recovery in just two weeks’ time. After that, she will be flown back to her home in Ghana.
Dr. Genecov’s intentions were not to garner attention, but simply to help someone in need. By offering free surgery to Adu, he has helped to set an example for others, and has become part of a network of doctors who have provided free care for those in need. Thank Dr. Genecov for his selfless act of performing surgery to remove Adu’s tumors, free of charge, and for being an inspiration to other medical professionals to help those in need.
Dear Dr. David Genecov,
Your decision to help a young girl from Ghana by offering her free surgical removal of the benign tumors inside her cheek is extremely admirable. Patience Adu had very limited options due to her circumstances in Ghana, and most likely would have continued to live her whole life with the tumors that posed not only physical pain, but emotional pain and embarrassment as well.
By offering free surgery to this young girl, you have not only given her a better life, but have helped many others as well. Your selfless act serves as an inspiration to other medical professionals – as well as other individuals who wish to help those in need – to offer services to those who have limited opportunities.
Thank you for providing free surgery to Patience Adu, and for being an inspiration to others to do the same.
