Target: Ken Salazar, United States Secretary of the Interior
Goal: Push the Arctic Refuge Comprehensive Conservation bill through Congress
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is a 19-million acre, ecological wonder that has greatly struggled to protect itself as well as the life it supports. Between oil ventures, logging companies, and poachers, ANWR’s pristine wilderness, along with its massive network of ecosystems, desperately needs enhanced federal protection.
As Secretary of the Interior, and lifelong Coloradoan, Ken Salazar has fought on the side of the environment for a long time and certainly understands the importance of protecting this refuge. While he has already put forth the Arctic Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Bill to Congress, he must see that it passes through Congress.
This bill sets forth a number of very reasonable goals in which the preservation of ANWR can be improved. From setting limits to the number of visitors and where they visit, to how the effects of global warming is measured, the comprehensive conservation bill is not about politics, but about protecting what few wild and natural places we have left.
Mr. Salazar will be leaving office soon and he must lobby to get this bill passed in his remaining time on the Hill. ANWR is a truly unique place that supports not only the lives of thousands of plant and animals, but also that of the Inuit way of life.
Please sign this petition and let Mr. Salazar know how important it is to push this bill through congress while he is still in a position of power. You never know what kind of politician will fill his position.
Dear Mr. Salazar,
The conservation of the Arctic Wildlife Refuge is an incredibly important fight that has endured since its creation in 1960. Your proposed bill, the Arctic Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Bill, is just what is needed to ensure protection for this unique natural wonder for years to come.
With millions of irreplaceable ecosystems, ANWR is truly a national treasure that not only provides millions with the opportunity to lose themselves in the wonders of nature, but also to witness a remarkable cross-section of our natural world.
Your time as the Secretary of the Interior is quickly coming to and end, and it is absolutely critical that everything is done in order to get this bill passed. Your experience on the political side of the fight for the environment, your long connection to the natural world, and your high level of respect in Washington makes you the perfect man to accomplish this feat.
Please make this a priority and put all the resources at your disposal towards passing this foreword-thinking bill.
