Target: Mike Torres, Senior Director of Communications for Pepsi Co.
Goal: To convince Naked Juice and its owner, Pepsi Co., to support labeling of genetically modified food
Naked Juice is owned by Pepsi Co., which recently donated $2.5 million to defeat Proposition 37 in California. This proposition would ensure the citizen’s right to know when their food has been genetically modified by employing clear labeling. The ballot summary form stated that it “Requires labeling of food sold to consumers made from plants or animals with genetic material changed in specified ways. Prohibits marketing such food, or other processed food, as ‘natural.’ Provides exemptions.”
Although Naked Juice markets itself as 100% juice and free of genetically modified organisms, it contains a whole laundry list of genetically modified soy and synthetic compounds. Man-made fibers and sweeteners, including insulin, are added to the juice to increase the taste of sweetness that consumers seem to love.
Not only is Naked Juice inherently hypocritical, it is also perpetuating a serious labeling problem in our country. GMOs have been linked to thousands of toxic allergens, organ damage, and livestock illness. Although some of us may not object to eating genetically modified food, we all have right to be informed about what we put in our bodies.
Products like Naked Juice caused California Proposition 37 to fail in the recent election. Sign the petition below to let Naked Juice know that we refuse to buy its products until the company acknowledges the benefits of GMO labeling and starts putting the consumer first.[gravityform id=1 name=Signthe Petition: ajax=false]
Dear Senior Director, Mike Torres,
As you know, labeling is an essential part of the food and beverage industry. The public has a right to be informed about the products they consume to encourage making healthy decisions.
One scientific study after the next has shown that genetically modified foods are unsafe for public consumption. It is no secret that many of your products, including Naked Juice, contain GMOs.
I am not trying to tell you how to make you how to manufacturer your products. However, I am urging you to support GMO labeling to allow consumers to make informed decisions about products that they choose to buy. Please stop donating money to anti-consumer lobbyist groups and reconsider your position on GMO labeling.
