Procter & Gamble Must Stop Destroying the Earth’s Forests

Target: Jon Moeller, CEO of Procter & Gamble

Goal: Stop destroying endangered wildlife habitat, Indigenous lands, and the global climate.

Procter & Gamble, the planet’s largest consumer company, is sourcing materials made by destroying some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. From paper products created with the pulp of Canada’s last old-growth trees, to palm oil grown on plantations that displace Indonesian rainforests, Procter & Gamble products are obliterating endangered wildlife habitat and making climate change worse. Despite repeated pleas for change from consumers, the nonprofit sector, and even its own investors, this bad actor company has continued on its path of destruction.

Procter & Gamble sells hundreds of household and personal care products, from shampoo to laundry detergent. The company owns more than a dozen major brands including Gillette razors, Tide laundry products, Febreze odor eliminator, and Dawn soaps. At present, nothing in Procter & Gamble policy guarantees any of these items are free from ingredients made by razing forests, eliminating endangered species habitat, and infringing on the territory of Indigenous peoples. According to a statement from the Rainforest Action Network, Proctor & Gamble’s “forest footprint stretches across millions of hectares of intact forests that are under the control of the large forestry and agribusiness companies that it continues to do business with.”

In October 2020, two thirds of Procter & Gamble investors voted for a resolution demanding the company finally address deforestation in its supply chain at its annual investor meeting. However, a year later there is little indication that corporate leadership plans to change course. Sign this petition to demand Procter & Gamble stop destroying the planet’s precious forests.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Moeller,

We, the undersigned, demand that Procter & Gamble take immediate action to end its use of products made by destroying ancient and biodiverse forests. From the old-growth boreal forests of Canada to some of the last orangutan habitat in Indonesia, your company is driving a ecological disaster and the loss of precious natural resources. By destroying intact forest lands that store countless tons of carbon, Procter & Gamble is also worsening the climate crisis. Consumers, the nonprofit sector, and your own investors have spoken out against these atrocities. Now it is time to act.

Procter & Gamble must follow the example of other major corporations who are taking steps to verify that their products are not making deforestation worse, and cut ties with suppliers who refuse to operate responsibly. As it stands, you are earning a reputation as a corporate laggard that contributes to biodiversity loss, climate change, and the violation of Indigenous peoples’ rights to control of their land. Please take immediate steps to outline how you plan to change course for the better and correct the mistakes of the past.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. STOP THIS NOW!!!!! WE NEED OUR FORESTS!!!!!

  2. Procter and Gamble has had devoted customers for decades. I’ve been one of them. Now I am reading more and more about your flagrant lack of regard for our forests, respect for your customers and/or only goal which is for the bottom line. We need to hold you accountable yet your customers can do much to stop your actions against us. We are living in Climate Change now. Americans and people of the world need natural resources to combat the crises. Your company is not ignorant of this fact, you simply choose to ignore it. People are used to their conveniences yet there are many sources showing us a way to achieve similar results without damaging the planet. That means fewer customers for you and a lot fewer sales, not to mention it’s cheaper to DIY. You deserve to loose your customers. I have noticed that even without being told outright many businesses are changing their packaging, and some even their product, to comply with working towards supporting this planet not killing it. I notice this walking the aisles of my local grocery. People are beginning to wake up to the abuse of corporations like yours and are deciding to spend their money on a higher standard product. Even at the expense of wiping out butts with a lesser toilet tissue people value life more. Recently all of us are noticing we are in danger of not living as we always have, enjoying this planet and the promise our children and their children will be able to do the same. Once this news hits the consciousness of the average consumer they will abandon your products. It’s a world of change or be changed. Good luck not using foresight and continuing with your selfish business practices. Bigger businesses than yours have gone under and the time is coming for you as well. Why do this to your business and your faithful customer base? You can do better but the choice is yours.

  3. Please stop. Also animal testing ….

  4. All petitions about our earth are so important

  5. If people did some simple homework like i did years ago. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM PROCTOR AND GAMBLE.

  6. And while you’re at it, stop testing on animals! I have always refused to buy Proctor and Gamble products for that reason alone.the

  7. Julia Edinger says:

Jon Moeller, CEO of Procter & Gamble

If more then 66% of your investors voted to change your present modus operandi and address your blatant deforestation practices destroying the planet and all the different animal species in your wake… it is time to wake up! Is this what you want your legacy TO BE? Set a proper good example and start leaving things better than you find them!!!

OR THE DAY WILL COME THAT THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT DUE TO MAN’S LACK OF GOOD STANDARD!

  11. I have simply stopped buying anything from Proctor&Gamble. They obviously don’t give a dam about our beautiful planet and they certainly don’t care about our beautiful wildlife. All they care about is MONEY and PROFIT!!!

  12. I stopped buying anything from Proctor and Gamble a long time ago. They don’t give a dam about our planet or the people or the wildlife. All they care about is making lots and lots of money.

  13. Stephanie Geyser says:

“When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money”. You may think that this is just a cliche – but it is very, VERY true. We humans have a LOT to answer-for on this (the only inhabitable) planet that we call home.

  14. The ugly and UNACCEPTABLE destruction of our beautiful Forests and Wild Lands has to STOP IMMEDIATELY. Our wild animals depend on these habitats to live and thrive in. These are their HOMES – THEIR SAFE HAVENS. They are important too. All Animals Matter. We must stop being irresponsible to Mother Earth and Nature. God created the Earth for ALL SPECIES OF LIVING BEINGS TO LIVE IN AND FEEL SAFE IN

  15. THIS IS CRIMINAL! You do NOT have the right to destroy precious forests and ecosystems for your damn profits! Word needs to spread far and wide of your reckless destruction and lack of regard for our ONE AND ONLY PLANET!

May you all rot in HELL for the ecocide you have committed and continue to commit. EVIL!

  16. Scott martinez says:

I’ve been done with P&G for years! Evil and disgusting!

  17. Janina Judek says:

WE ARE BOYCOTTING PROCTOR & GAMBLE for CRIMES AGAINST NATURE!

EVIL COMPANY, you need to start a MASSIVE tree planting campaign worldwide to at least attempt to rectify the DAMAGE you have done to ALL OF US! Look at this photograph YOU are responsible for destroying countless trees, habitats and ecosystems for YOUR BOTTOMLESS GREED!

WHY countries allow you to TRESPASS and wreak this level of devastation is mind-boggling…YOU MUST STOP YOUR DESTRUCTIVE DEATH OPERATIONS NOW!

  18. Procter & Gamble are DEHUMANIZED, DESENSITIZED, SADISTIC AND PSYCHOPATHIC BASTARDS whose only value is GREED!
Procter & Gamble commit an EXTREME ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME!
This LOWLIFE SCUM must be stopped and fined with billions of dollars.
PUT THESE messed-up F*ckers behind the bars for many years ahead so that our unique planet can RECUPERATE!

  19. Shirley Lemieux says:

Proctor and Gamble has earned a bad reputation over the years from animal experiments to destroying wildlife habitation. The CEO seems to have a complete disregard for what and how consumers feel about their ways of doing business. Thus the reason consumers have gone elsewhere. It is never a good thing to turn your back on consumers.

  20. Milantia Roy says:

bunch of greedy despicable ignorant bastards!
