Goal: Stop life-threatening Texas abortion ban
A law is close to being passed in Texas that cuts abortion off at a six-week period and would go into effect in September. This is incredibly devastating because many do not even know they are pregnant until after six weeks. Doctors and organizations that do not adhere to this regulation also may face battles in court. As neighboring states prepare for an influx of out of state patients, the ban is still being challenged by legislation. If enough people can nationally express their distaste for this dangerous ban, it may save hundreds of lives.
If such a strict regulation passes in Texas, there is no doubt that other states will also attempt to do the same. A ban like this would leave numerous women and other people seeking care stranded. People need access to proper health care, and doctors must be allowed to follow scientific and medical recommendations.
Socially conservative and liberal Texans agree this is crossing the line. While there are some extremist groups that do disagree, it is simply ridiculous to expect a person to know they are pregnant so early in their first trimester. It is not impossible, but the chances are still too slim and risky. Medical experts state that fetuses are not able to feel pain until after twenty-four weeks. Previously, Texas placed the ban at twenty-two weeks, which still allows someone to receive the proper treatment in time. The new ban may also make women and others take an extra trip to clinics, thus further limiting the amount of time they would legally have to terminate pregnancy.

Dear Gov. Greg Abbot,
These attempts at banning abortions must come to a stop. In a medical and scientific lens, a six-week regulation on abortion is incredibly dangerous and hinders reproductive rights. Many do not even know they are pregnant at this stage. Safe, legal abortions are a right, and you as a leader should be ashamed that you would allow something like this to occur.
Prohibition on abortion will not stop them from happening either. People deserve access to secure health care, especially during a global pandemic. If you become the first state to allow such a ridiculous ban, it may influence others. New Mexico is already preparing for hundreds of women and others to come into their state to obtain the proper care they need. It would reflect poorly on you to force these people to travel to obtain a medical procedure that is their right.
No matter where you lie politically, health and medical procedures should not be fought against. Abortions function just the same as having to get an operation for a broken leg. We demand you stop this ban and continue to allow people to receive the medical care that doctors recommend.
