Don’t Kill Bears for Protecting Their Homes

Target: Jason Nixon, Minister of Environment and Parks Alberta

Goal: Change the grizzly bear response guide, and only euthanize bears as a last resort.

The province of Alberta has seen two fatal grizzly bear attacks in the last month. One of the bears has been caught and killed, while the other is still at large. The loss of human life is horrible, yet people should not respond in kind. These bears should not be killed unless no other option is possible.

The euthanized grizzly was found to be an older female, and this was one of the considerations that led to her demise. Just because an animal is past its prime, does not give humans the right to deem the animal unimportant and to kill it as a result.

The other bear has not been caught, but it deserves a fair chance once it is. Sign this petition to urge the authorities to use euthanasia only as a last result, and find other means to safeguard people and grizzlies alike.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Nixon,

The loss of any human life in a fatal assault is always a horrible thing, and it is tragic that two people have been killed in grizzly attacks. However, this does not give people the right to respond in kind and kill the wild animals who are protecting their land from human interference. These animals must be dealt with in a decisive manner that safeguards the public, but euthanasia should not be used unless no other means are available. Furthermore, killing an animal because it is “past its prime” is an abuse of power, and all creatures should be respected with equal importance.

There is one bear still at large who is linked with a fatal attack. I urge you to show more compassion and respect when dealing with this grizzly and find alternatives to euthanasia when dealing with these situations in the future.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

WHERE THE “HELL ARE THEY SUPPOSE TO LIVE” WHEN HUMANS KEEP TAKING AWAY THEIR HABITAT’S !!!! MUST STOP MURDERING WILDLIFE THEY ARE NEEDED TO KEEP LIFE AS WE KNOW IT OR HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TRAGEDY ON EARTH WILL BE THREATENED WITHOUT THEM !!!

  2. Benjamin Slack says:

    Stop this at once

  3. It is past time to realize this planet MUST be shared!!! True the loss of human life is horrible but so is wiping out wildlife!

I believe education is the only route to a peaceful co-existence between humans and animal…

  4. We thought Canada was smarter than this. . . Guess is you can tolerate the seal slaughter nothing is too barbaric for you.

    • Gabriela Torres says:

Unfortunately Canada is not … there have been numerous incidents in which they show how ignorant and careless they are when confronting these issues … for them animals do not count and they retaliate with them to take revenge and kill them in the most cruel way they possibly can.

  5. Linda Cummings says:

I don’t blame the bears. They are probably so frustrated by not having enough room left to them to live a safe and natural life. I was in the Smokey Mountains many years ago and watched a very upset bear chase a dozen tourists down a trail. It needed to use it’s home territory and could not because of the hoards of people trampling all over it.

  6. Debra Reece Simons says:

So sad As we invade and destroy these animal’s habitats and then we destroy them —why???because they are only trying to protect themselves and their own loved ones as they have a right to do…

  7. Save the grizzly bears 🐻!!!!!

  8. F*ck humans. A bear’s life is just as important.

  9. THIS IS BASICALLY HOME INVADERS KILLING/MURDERING THE OCCUPANTS……WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL SPECIES THE HUMAN RACE IS – SICKENINGLY IGNORANT, AND ARROGANT WITH IT! NO RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING, OR APPRECIATION OF THE NATURAL WORLD AND IT’S WONDER……I FORESEE A TIME AND WORLD WHEN THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT BUT MAN-MADE, UNNATURAL UGLINESS.

  10. It is vile animal hating humans who need to e exterminated. The only good hunter is a dead one. Hunt the hunters!!

  11. Shirley Lemieux says:

What happens to a Man who kills another human being? It happens every day. Loss of human life as a result of the actions of another is unfortunately quite common. The murderer will likely be taken into custody, be treated with respect and dignity to stand trial. He will also be provided housing, albeit a prison cell, food, medical, and a system of law that could lessen the term of his prison sentence.

But what happens when an animal attacks or kills a human? Men respond with a “death sentence”.

Yes it is tragic. However, we are talking about an enormous animal for whatever reason did what he/she did. Whether he/she was provoked, frightened, or protecting their young.

Educating humans and or transporting an animal to a better and safer environment are alternatives.

  12. Michelle Stewart says:

Stop killing animals because they go where humans are. Animals probably lived there 1st and we humans keep taking over where they live. Put up large barriers that they can’t climb (electric fences or something like that) to keep them away from heavily people populated areas, or tranquilize and re-locate the more aggressive bears. Just stop killing the animals.

  13. Manage man! Not wildlife!

    • Charleen Murphy says:

I agree! Animals have a right to be here too! They live on the earth where it is natural for them to live & people want to come& live near them! Not the Bears fault! People need to keep their distance & respect them & their rights& needs.
      So sad.
I get so sick of humans!

    • Charleen Murphy says:

Meant to say they live on the earth too etc

  14. Jaime Perez says:

The poor animals keep getting pushed put of their habitats and they have no where to go. They come in contact with humans, and bang!their shot dead. It’s appalling and sickening. Stupid people, learn to live with wildlife.

  15. SOME PEOPLE ARE BEYOND STUPID, YOU DO NOT GO IN AN AREA WHERE YOU KNOW THAT BEARS, TIGERS, LIONS, SNAKES (VENOMOUS) ARE. STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THERE AND MAYBE THESE INNOCENT ANIMALS WON’T BE KILLED AND NEITHER WILL YOU! RESPECT THESE ANIMALS!

  16. GRIZZLIES ARE PRECIOUS AND MAJESTIC CREATURES WHO HAVE THE SAME RIGHT TO LIVE ON THIS PLANET AS HUMANS! HUMANS DON’T HAVE EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO LIVE HERE. TO KILL GRIZZLIES IS TO DESTROY THE BEAUTY AND DIVERSITY OF OUR PLANET. GRIZZLIES WERE THERE FIRST! HUMANS MUST FIND OTHER SOLUTIONS THAN BRAINLESS KILLINGS. WE MUST ABSOLUTELY BE ABLE TO LIVE-SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH PRECIOUS WILDLIFE! WE CANNOT MURDER ALL WILDLIFE BECAUSE OF HUMANS!!!! FIND OTHER SOLUTIONS AND ALTERNATIVES TO SENSELESS MURDERING. HUMANS DON’T HAVE TO GO IN THE AREAS WHERE GRIZZLIES HAVE THEIR HOME. USE YOUR BRAINS YOU “SUPERIOR” HUMAN RACE!!! THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHER POSSIBILITIES THAN BRAINLESS MURDERING OF THESE UNIQUE CREATURES! Thank you!

  17. The same people who have no problem killing this senior aged bear are the very same ones who abhor Euthanasia for terminally ill humans.

  18. Bears hurt no one unless you go on “their “ property . Humans need to stay out of their habitat. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone . No sense in killing them . Relocate away from dumb people.

  19. Paula Morgan says:

Home sweet home! Humans protect their homes. We expect bears to do otherwise? Home is where we raise a family and have protection form the elements. Bears don’t? Bears do! Humans have guns and machines to bulldoze bears and they do so without any empathy or regard. The US finally has a President who is actually doing things to combat the effects of climate change. Canada needs to take a page out of his book. Instead of killing why not share? The problem? Industry, graft, convenience for the sake of making money. After all your kids have to go to college, my kids will go to college but what if the planet dies before they get to college? What then?

  20. Back off and leave the bears alone or you scumbags shall pay BIGTIME!! This is the bears territory!
