Honor George Floyd With Police Reform in His Name

Target: Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader

Goal: Fight for implementation of comprehensive reform package aimed at curbing police misconduct and bias.

Memorial Day, the anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, and the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s shocking murder: all of these landmark dates take place in the span of a week. Each one honors lives lost far too soon. This apex of history represents the ideal time to honor Mr. Floyd’s legacy in the most impactful way…with meaningful and lasting reform that can prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021 would implement several measures related to excessive force, other misconduct by law enforcement, and potential racial biases. These actions include the following: a federal police misconduct registry, enhanced power to prosecute such cases, body or dashboard camera requirements, anti-discrimination training, prohibition of chokeholds and no-knock warrants, and deadly force as last resort. Many of these proposals, if enacted sooner, might have stopped the horrific chain of events that ended the life of George Floyd or other past victims like Eric Garner and Breonna Taylor.

Sign the petition below to urge the leader of the party holding up this potentially life-saving legislation to lend his support and help save future lives.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator McConnell,

“You dad can do what?” When a family member asked seven-year-old Gianna this question about her late father George Floyd, she responded with an answer well beyond her years: “change the world.” Mr. Floyd’s family believes and hopes that “meaningful police reform” will be his “legacy.” In the wake of too many similar tragedies before and after this watershed death, why can’t America’s leaders unite and give real honor to this man and so many others like him?

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act should not be held hostage to partisan bickering. Instead of pointing fingers at your political foes and trying to score points, support this effort. Your leadership role could mean everything in this moment, and it would mean the world to families in pain searching for a ray of hope.

Do not let this effort meet the fate of so many other Senate bills. Help make this needed change a reality at last.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Are you kidding me! This is a repeat criminal and your going to glorify him. He was jacked up on drugs he killed himself. This it total bullshit!

    • Tiff is known for that. Honor a stinking thug who wouldn’t have been in that position if he hadn’t been a thug. The policeman was wrong, no doubt, and should be prosecuted but let’s not forget that he was arresting the piece of human trash during this incident. Tiff, you’re going well over the line, girl, you might want to check who your heroes really are, especially right here at Memorial Day when we honor the real people who helped save our way of life.

      • Evan Jane Kriss says:

The only “stinking piece of human trash” here is the officer responsible for Floyd’s death, Chauvin, and you, for calling him that. Good Lord.

    • Evan Jane Kriss says:

No human being deserves to have been pinned down with a knee on the neck unable to breathe. How would you feel if a cop did that to you, or to someone you loved? He was NOT “jacked up on drugs,” and he did not kill himself. Derek Chauvin killed him by blocking his airway with his knee. Wake up and get the facts.

The criminals in the case of Mr Floyd vs the police, were the POLICE. PERIOD.
DO NOT MAKE THIS THE VICTIMS FAULT, he was murdered, MURDERED.
