Target: Indian Parliament
Goal: Abolish the practice of child slavery in India.
While children in the United States may complain about school and homework, in India, it’s a bit different. Too many Indian children wake up at dawn and immediately begin several hours of back-breaking labor. They work seven days a week under terrible conditions and are not able to attend school. They would love to be woken up by their parents and sent off to school. Education is one of the most widely valued attributes of human culture, but ironically it is increasingly taken for granted, particularly in the United States.
Children in India face a harsh reality. They are victims of child enslavement practices that are common in many regions of India. Last December, the Indian Parliament passed on the opportunity to enact legislation which would halt these practices of child slavery and give the nation’s youth a chance to go to school, get an education, and follow their dreams. As it stands now, many of these children are doomed to lives of brutal labor and many will die prematurely as a result of work-related injury or disease.
The fate of millions of children is at stake here, and India must take action to protect them. Child slavery is unethical, brutal, and must be abolished. Sign this petition and demand that the Indian Parliament abolish child slavery.
Dear Indian Parliament,
Child slavery is unethical, cruel, and robs innocent children of their rights before they are old enough to even understand them. Children are at a crucial phase in human development, one which must be supported and encouraged by their environment and the people around them. During these critical years, children must be nurtured, supported, and encouraged. First and foremost, they need to be taken care of physically. This includes proper nutrition, adequate sleep and time to rest, and limits to the amount of physical labor they are asked to endure. Their brains are developing rapidly as they grow into the men and women they will inevitably be comes. They need intellectual stimulation; children must go to school to be educated.
Child slavery, a common practice in your country, violates children and robs them of their freedom. These practices are cruel and unjust. You are taking advantage of innocent children before they have a chance to figure out who they are and learn about their world. Teaching children values of rugged individualism and hard work are one thing, forcing them to endure long hours of back-breaking labor in the blazing sun without adequate sustenance and medical treatment is another.
Stop this horrible practice now. Let these children live, and give them the resources they need to survive. Abolish child slavery, and save these poor children’s lives.
