Commend Colorado Representatives for Supporting Wind Power

Target: Commend United States Senator Mark Udall, United States Senator Michael Bennet,  Representative Ed Perlmutter, Representative Jared Polis, and Representative Diana DeGette.

Goal: Commend Colorado’s representatives for strongly supporting the continuation of tax credits for wind powered energy.

In the rush to meet the fiscal cliff’s economic demands, tax credits for wind power plants were seen by some as an unnecessary expenditure.  However, Senator Udall, Senator Bennett, Congressman Polis, Congressman Perlmutter, and Congresswoman DeGette strongly supported the extension of these tax credits past the looming financial drop-off on December 31, 2012.  We should commend them.

Wind power currently provides electricity to over 13 million homes across the country and prevents 137,000 pounds of smog-forming emissions and 91,000 pounds of soot-forming emissions every year. In Colorado alone, the power generated from wind turbines, instead of traditional power sources, reduces the same amount of global warming pollutants as removing 525,000 cars from the roads each year.  Of course this will exponentially increase as more turbines are built with the extra funds accrued from tax exemption.

In addition to keeping our environment safe, this seemingly minor tax adjustment signifies a strong step towards progressing our country’s renewable energy industry—a progression that would not only limit our dependency on foreign oil, but also create jobs here in America. Please sign this petition and let these Colorado representatives know how important this issue is.

Dear Senator Udall, Senator Bennet, Congressman Polis, Congressman Perlmutter, and Congresswoman DeGette,

We want to thank you for your support in passing a bill to extend tax credits for wind power operations.  Especially in Colorado, where our natural surroundings play such a daily role in our lives, wind power is a great way to limit our carbon footprint and safely power the state.

Not only does your state have vast wind energy resources, which would keep energy costs low if properly tapped, but the expansion of a renewable energy industry could provide thousands of jobs to our local economy.

While the purpose of this petition is to first and foremost commend you in your efforts thus far, it is also meant to impress upon you the importance of this issue to your constituents and promote your future efforts. Please make the development of renewable energy sources a priority of emphasis throughout your next term in office.
