Target: R.D. Riddle, Chief of Police, Windsor, VA
Goal: Fire cop allegedly involved in the use of excessive force against Lt. Caron Nazario.
Police officers in Windsor, VA reportedly used excessive force and threatened an active-duty military member. Video of the incident apparently shows two police officers, Joe Guitierrez and Daniel Crocker, approaching the SUV of Lt. Caron Nazario, who identifies as Black-Latino, with guns drawn. Nazario was pulled over for a traffic violation. Per the video, two officers yell at Nazario and give conflicting orders, telling him to keep his hands outside the vehicle, while also telling him to step out of the vehicle. Nazario remains calm and asks the officers why he is being pulled over and why he is asked to step out of the car, a request that is not usual for traffic violations. When Narazio continues to ask why he is being asked to leave the vehicle, he admits that he is scared to get out of the car. Guitierrez seemingly responds threateningly: “You should be.”
Guitierrez apparently goes on to spray Nazario with pepper spray. He then reportedly removes Nazario from the car and puts him on the ground. Although this apparent use of excessive force occurred in December of 2020, video of the incident is only now being released as Nazario is suing the officers involved. Guitierrez has since been fired from the Windsor Police Department. Sign this petition to urge them to also remove Officer Daniel Crocker from their police force.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Chief Riddle,
The use of excessive force by police in the United States has proven to be an epidemic of its own. When police officers unnecessarily use force it not only endangers the citizens that they have committed to protect and serve, but also puts the officers themselves into an unnecessarily dangerous situation while also undermining their mission. It is necessary that all police officers that use excessive force be removed from their roles. This becomes even more true in instances that happen across racial and socioeconomic lines.
Officer Daniel Crocker was reportedly involved in one such event when he seemingly used unnecessary force against Lt. Caron Nazario during a traffic violation stop. I urge you to remove Officer Crocker from the Windsor Police Department.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
