Dismantle Destructive Trump Policies Before Clock Runs Out

Target: Chuck Schumer, U.S. Senate Majority Leader

Goal: Nullify last-minute federal policy changes that target environmental and public wellness.

Dangerous methane emissions, corrosive workplace bias, slashed social security disability benefits: these damaging outcomes and more may come to pass if Congress does not take urgent action. During its waning days, the Trump administration finalized several policies that adversely impacted the above along with a host of other issues. Currently, six of these destructive plans are on the chopping block, but they must be dismantled by mid-May or they will become the government’s status quo.

Under the Congressional Review Act, a newly-sworn-in Congress can nullify any regulation a departing president typically pushes through before leaving office. The Republican-led Senate took just this action with 16 of former President Obama’s last-minute policies. Congress also has the benefit of passing these nullifications by a simple majority vote, side-stepping any potential filibusters. Six nullifications that include provisions relevant to the aforementioned issues are currently on the table, but time is quickly running out to block actions that could do long-term damage.

Sign the petition below to urge Senate leadership to act with expediency in utilizing this important tool.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Schumer,

The filibuster may stymy needed agenda items, but the Senate does have a vital instrument at its disposal: the Congressional Review Act. Filibuster-proof, this power enables you to block many harmful final-hour regulations implemented by the Trump administration relating to the environment, disability, and more. This tool is extremely time-sensitive, however.

You have until May to wield this power, yet to date you have only scheduled action on a scarce few of the items. By this time four years ago, your Republican counterparts had struck down 16 provisions. Please do not let this essential instrument go to waste. Show the people who put their votes and their confidence behind you that you can spearhead the reforms desperately needed on so many fronts.

Sincerely,

With the Trump administration everything was about money, for himself, the ultra rich, and industry/corporations. Trump put Covid on a back burner, did nothing and over half a million died. He allowed trophy hunting and hunting contests and almost wiped out our wildlife. Like it or not climate change is here and we must cope. Trump cost the poor and middle class dearly. Now we have a chance to revise his lack of concern. We can drink clean water, breathe clean air and keep our public lands by Trump not selling them off to every Tom, Dick, or Harry. Biden will take an interest and change what is standing in the way of a fair government and a just system of law and order. Let’s get rid of all that Trump did to harm and that will be a giant step to healing!
