Demand Justice for Asylum Seekers Abused by Border Patrol

Target: Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France

Goal: Enforce protections for asylum seekers entering France.

Refugees seeking asylum in France have fled their war-torn homes in Syria and Northern Africa, risking everything for a chance to live. These individuals have endured hardships that many people will never be able to comprehend. To leave everything, risk everything, and reach the promised land only to be treated like livestock, shuffled around and kept in containers, subjected to abuse, and sent ‘back’ is not something that anyone should have to experience. Yet thousands can claim the described experiences as their own.

Grassroot movements are currently carrying the weight of humanitarian aid and support for asylum seekers, occupying the border to ensure that refugees can share what has happened to them and make sure they have something to eat. Basic human needs are being denied and these people are suffering with nowhere to go for rest and relief. Reports indicate that the French and Italian border patrol have continuously used violence against asylum seekers.

They have destroyed evidence of refugees ever seeking asylum and sent them back over the border again and again in an attempt to make it ‘someone else’s problem’. Border patrol must be held accountable to uphold the law and follow through on presenting applications for asylum to appropriate parties. They must be held responsible for their treatment of the people they detain. Demand justice for refugees abused at the border.

Dear President Macron,

Reports from the borders of France and Italy indicate an alarming amount of incidents where authorities have violated human rights and destroyed evidence of refugees seeking asylum.

Refugees have fled war-torn countries in hopes of a better life. Rather than a safe harbor, they have been greeted by abuse and illegal infraction of their basic human rights. This is a disgrace. You must occupy the border with officers that will treat asylum seekers with dignity and follow through on due process to support them in their efforts to obtain legal documents. I demand that you hold your border patrol accountable and seek justice for the refugees abused at the border.
