Idaho, Stop Taxing Periods

Target: Brad Little, Governor of Idaho

Goal: Eliminate the sales tax on menstrual products.

In Idaho, menstrual products are subject to sales tax while hair loss treatment is exempt. Over half the population experiences menstruation. It is an act of discrimination that creates additional barriers for menstruating individuals, disrupting their access to work, school, and the wider community.

By failing to recognize menstrual products as essential, the state is preventing menstruating individuals from being able to purchase them through subsidy programs they may be dependent on. Menstrual products are critical for an individual’s health and safety. These are not luxury items. They are very much necessities and must be recognized as such. Sign the petition below to demand that Idaho stop taxing periods.

Dear Governor Little,

The sales tax on menstrual products is active discrimination. It is thereby unconstitutional. Half the population requires reliable access to menstrual products. It is necessary for them to carry out their lives as participating members of society.

Women and other menstruating individuals in prison, in school, and on subsidy programs are in need of access to these products. Failing to recognize and honor that need is a crime. Tampons, pads, and diva cups also play an important role in health and safety. Subjecting these items to a luxury tax is wrong and needs to be corrected. Stop taxing periods.
