Repeal Ban on Same-Sex Relationships

Target: Andrew Holness, Prime Minister, Jamaica

Goal: Repeal Jamaica’s cruel and discriminatory ban on same-sex relationships.

In Jamaica, men and women suspected of being in same-sex relationships are tortured, harassed, abused, and even killed by neighbors, family, and authorities. For over 150 years, “gross indecency” has been banned in Jamaica and same-sex relationships fall under this ban. Members of the LGBTQ community face up to ten years in prison with hard labor if they are suspected of “same-sex intimacy.”

This cruel ban must be repealed. The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has ruled that Jamaica’s legislation is inhumane and contrary to international human rights laws. The commission has asked that Jamaica repeal its same-sex ban, implement LGBTQ nondiscrimination laws, and train police on LGBTQ competency. Sign the petition to add your voice to this fight. Demand that repeal of this cruel, antiquated law.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Holness,

For over 150 years, the LGBTQ community has lived in fear. They’ve been tortured, harassed, and even killed. They face up to a decade in prison with hard labor simply for loving who they love, causing no harm to others in the process.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has already ruled that your legislation is inhumane and contrary to international human rights laws. They demand that you repeal this same-sex ban immediately. End this discrimination and cruelty. Hate can never win in the face of love.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
