Stop Mega Mining Indigenous Territory

Target: CEO of Pan American Silver, Michael Steinmann

Goal: Stop the expansion of mega mining in Argentina.

In violation of the Argentine Constitution, the Provincial government has approved plans for an expansion of Pan American Silver mining operations on indigenous territory. Plans are underway without consultation of indigenous communities. The mega mining project seeks to exploit silver deposits. Protests against the expansion have been met with arbitrary arrests and violence.

There needs to be accountability for the violation of the Argentine Constitution, the abuse of the community’s trust, and the maltreatment of individuals that seek to provide accountability. Sign the petition below to demand that Pan American Silver’s plans to expand be terminated.

Dear Mr. Steinmann,

Pan American Silver’s plans to expand mining in Patagonia would be disruptive to the land and have not been approved by the local indigenous people whose land will be disturbed. The project would be a blatant disregard of the local communities. It is  also a violation of the Argentine Constitution.

Your plans have been met with resistance and that resistance will not relent until you terminate plans to expand mega mining on this sacred territory. I ask that you heed the cries of Argentina’s citizens and the native tribes you seek to exploit. Abandon plans to mine this indigenous territory.

  1. Native peoples need to have rights. The government walks all over them (pretty much like we did to our native people in the US). The government is letting companies in to deforest, mine and drill, causing fires, pollution and oil spills. This has taken the homes of the people who live in the forest and also the homes of wildlife. The workers have brought disease where that the people were never exposed to. They have no immunity to them. This destruction needs to stop.
