Trump: Call Family of Fallen Police Officer Who Died Defending the Capitol

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Call the family of slain Capitol Police officer to express condolence.

The family of Brian Sicknick, a Capitol Police officer who died as a result of the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol building, has reportedly not received any call of condolence from President Trump. This demands the question of whose side President Trump is on: that of the domestic terrorists or of the Capitol Police who defended democracy? Ultimately, it is customary for the President to call or otherwise seek to assuage the grief of families who have lost loved ones while defending our country and its ideals. For Trump to avoid a call is a blatant disregard of his Presidential duties and incredibly disrespectful to the legacy of the officer.

“I’m supposed to die first. Not my son,” said Charles Sicknick, the father of the slain officer. He added that he would “never get over this.” Officer Brian Sicknick died after he was injured while defending the US Capitol from the violent mob of Trump supporters. He was bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher, sustaining injuries, and collapsing when he had returned to his office. He was 42-years-old. Sicknick’s father confirmed that his son’s death involved a blood clot in his brain. There was an option to operate, but while the operation would sustain life functions, the quality of life would have been very low. The elder Sicknick said, “If they had operated on him, he would’ve become a vegetable.”

The Sicknick family has received condolence calls from Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Vice President Mike Pence, and President-Elect Joe Biden. Sign this petition to urge President Trump to express his condolences to the Sicknick family.

Dear President Trump,

The insurrection on the Capitol building, led by a violent group of your supporters and incited by your baseless rhetoric of a “stolen” and “fraudulent” election, was deadly. Officer Sicknick, a 42-year-old Capitol Police officer, died after sustaining injuries while being bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher. Officer Sicknick died protecting democracy and the values of our country. He also died at the hands of your supporters.

The family has reportedly not received any condolence call from you directly. I urge you to reach out to the Sicknick family during this time of grief.
