Stop Slashing at Americans’ Healthcare for Political Gain

Target: Alex Azar, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services

Goal: Restore full Medicaid funding to California to safeguard lives.

In the midst of a global pandemic, the highest levels of American government continue to play political games with healthcare. Outgoing Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Alex Azar announced that his agency would deprive Californians of 200 million dollars in Medicaid funding. This callous move appears to be a politically motivated strike-back at California’s governor.

The state currently has rules for insurance companies regarding coverage for abortions. The Trump Administration, which often touts itself as a champion of states’ rights, does not like these rules. As punishment, it has decided to take healthcare opportunities away from millions of low-income and disabled citizens. This move is both heartless and non-sensical.

Sign the petition below to demand that HHS stop trying to score political points off the backs and the lives of suffering Americans.

Dear Secretary Azar,

You may not like California’s guidelines regarding insurance coverage for abortions. Liking a policy set by a state in a supposed “states’ rights” administration is not your job. Your duty is to the health and well-being of the American people…all of them.

Your apparent belief that the best means of settling a political dispute between the state of California and the federal government is to punish its most vulnerable citizens via deep Medicaid cuts is outrageous and unconscionable.  In the wake of your own family’s COVID diagnosis, how would you feel if someone arbitrarily took away your healthcare? Stop using peoples’ lives as bargaining chips.

Rescind this sick display of political pandering immediately.
