End Use of Pesticide Linked to Developmental Disabilities

Target: Joe R. Biden, President-elect of the United States

Goal: Deny permission to use pesticide linked to serious disabilities and illnesses in children.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has announced that it will allow the continued use of chlorpyrifos, a neurotoxic pesticide which has been linked to cancers, learning disabilities, and physical impairments in children. The body of evidence linking chlorpyrifos to these issues have led to its banning in the European Union and several U.S. states. In 2015, the EPA itself proposed such a ban, only for its recommendation to be rejected by President Donald Trump as soon as he took office.

The recent reappraisal of this substance has raised widespread concerns among health officials and in the scientific community. Several crucial studies detailing the risks of chlorpyrifos were excluded from consideration by the EPA, despite warnings that the presence of this dangerous substance in some of the most widely-consumed crops in the United States represents a serious risk to pregnant women, infants, and toddlers who consume them.

President-elect Joe Biden has vowed to protect workers and consumers from excessive and dangerous pesticide use. Because the EPA’s decision is only an interim one, it falls to Biden to promise to remove chlorpyrifos in order to protect those most vulnerable. Sign the petition below to demand that this be done.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. President-elect,

The dangers of chlorpyrifos are known throughout the world, yet President Trump’s EPA has rejected the scientific consensus to permit its continued use. This reckless and heartless decision will endanger the safe, healthy development of countless children nationwide, leaving them with the negative consequences of profit-seeking.

You have pledged to protect the people of the United States from decisions like these, and I call upon you to take action. I demand that you ban this dangerous substance as soon as you take office to safeguard America’s most vulnerable.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. This should really be directed toward Andrew Wheeler.

    • Wheeler is the one who approved it. He’s set on causing as much destruction as possible in the time he has left. Time to look to damage control.
