Demand Stimulus Relief for Essential Workers

Target: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

Goal: Add protections and hazard pay for essential workers in the next COVID-19 relief bill.

Tipped service industry professionals are some of the most overlooked, overworked, and underappreciated employees in the workplace. They are the backbone of an essential industry and yet most places do not provide hazard pay, insurance, or even time off in the case of possible exposure.

A recent study showed that tipped service workers are at the highest risk of COVID-19 contraction. That same study also showed that these workers are the least protected in terms of benefits, hazard pay, and the ability to take time off due to potential exposure. In a time where many essential workers are just as worried about catching COVID as they are about becoming houseless due to a COVID-related job loss, we need to provide essential protections to ensure the safety of our front-line workers.

In the next round of stimulus relief, the Senate needs to include some nationwide protections and relief for those front-line workers who are most affected by the virus. It’s time the Senate took steps to protect some of our country’s most vulnerable and irreplaceable workers. Sign the petition to ask Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to include tipped service professionals and essential workers in the next COVID-19 relief bill.

Dear Senator McConnell,

Front-line workers are the backbone of this economy and they are also the ones at the highest risk of contracting COVID-19. Tipped service industry workers have been repeatedly named the most vulnerable group when it comes to catching the virus during this pandemic. They are in dire need of job security and protection if they are exposed to the disease. This is why we are demanding that you provide some sort of stimulus relief to the most vulnerable workers in the next round of COVID relief funding.

Every essential worker deserves to feel respected and gratitude for putting themselves on the line every day to ensure that the economy stays afloat. The best way to do this is to provide a direct line of support in the form of stimulus relief. Whether it’s funding the states to provide more comprehensive unemployment insurance or creating a program that directly benefits these front-line workers, the time to act is now. Do your part in protecting the American people and generate stimulus relief for those who need it most.

How about retail workers being verbally abused by customers as well as physically threatened?
