Commend China’s Proposal to Narrow the Income Gap

Target: Chinese President Xi Jinping

Goal: Thank China for creating a plan to reduce the income gap between rich and poor

Many nations struggle with an increasingly broad income gap between its richest and poorest citizens. To measure the disparity, many nations use a Gini coefficient, a well-known index of income inequality. When last measured, China’s coefficient was .474. While that is only slightly higher than the United States, it is the highest of any advanced industrial nation. To combat its income inequality, China has created a plan to reduce the income gap. Commend the Chinese government for working to create a more equitable future for its people.

China’s income gap is partly due to the huge differences between rural and industrial salaries, as well as low wages for factory workers. For months, China has been debating whether to scale back the rising incomes of state-owned business and bank officials. Recently, Chinese officials released a statement saying they have created a proposal to deal with the issue, and are committed to reducing the poverty of rural villages.

Chinese officials have long known that income distribution has been a problem. However, the government also has an issue with unlawful or unreported sources of income. This understanding means that the Gini coefficient used to determine China’s income inequality might be underrepresenting the problem. In light of this distressing information, the incumbent president Xi Jinping has created a plan to eliminate illegal sources of income, increase payments to social security, and has developed a stricter method of income reporting. While a plan has not been created to reduce corruption, the issue is being investigated. Sign the petition below and thank China for creating a plan to reduce income disparity.

Dear President Xi,

Income disparity is an issue that affects many nations around the world. A widening gap between rich and poor means that some live in destitution while others earn inflated and extravagant salaries. Reducing this disparity benefits the country as a whole and creates more equitable conditions for its citizens.

China’s large Gini coefficient means that your nation struggles from a wide income gap. Like many industrialized nations, it threatens the prosperity of the country as a whole. I would like to thank you for creating a plan to reduce the income gap, working to reduce corruption, and improving accurate income reporting. Hopefully this plan will create more opportunities for individuals living in poverty and ensure continued prosperity for China.
