Target: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo
Goal: To commend the state of New York for fighting to give women reproductive rights
With women’s rights under attack by several states over the past few months, it’s refreshing to have one state that is actually looking out for women. New York is fighting for women to have more rights when it comes to their pregnancies, and we need to support their efforts in doing so.
The Reproductive Health Act (RHA) would guarantee that every woman would have the right to access abortion and family planning services. This act is specifically designed to ensure that a woman’s right to control whether she uses contraception or not is protected. The RHA will also extend the right for a woman to get a late-term abortion if the pregnancy puts her health at risk. Currently in New York, a woman can only receive late-term abortions if the pregnancy will likely kill her.
The RHA will also protect the doctors who are treating the women as well. New York law is currently unclear on the specifics of what is right and wrong when it comes to abortions, and this law will protect both parties involved.
It’s a woman’s decision to keep or terminate a pregnancy, and there are many things contemplated when making a decision like this. Having limitations on the law doesn’t help a woman during this difficult time. Sign the petition below to commend New York for fighting for women’s rights.
Dear Governor Cuomo,
The women in your state are sure to be thankful for your hard work in protecting their rights. While many other states across the country are limiting what a woman’s options are when she becomes pregnant, you are fighting to keep their free will intact.
Many states want to criminalize women for receiving an abortion, but they don’t understand what a difficult situation it is for a woman to decide that is the right option for her. It is a less than ideal circumstance, and a courageous thing to go through. When a woman finally makes her decision on the outcome of her pregnancy, she should be supported regardless of her decision. Instead, some states want to control what the woman’s options are. Whether she was raped or not, it is happening in her body and no one else’s.
Your state is making brave advancements in the fight for women’s rights. Other states will hopefully follow in your footsteps so that women’s reproductive rights can be protected. Thank you for your hard work in this fight.
