Trump: Don’t Dismantle Climate Science as Final Act in Office

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Do not leave National Climate Assessment in the hands of climate change deniers.

One of the most important ways the Unites States demonstrates its commitment to climate science and environmental wellness is the National Climate Assessment. This comprehensive report takes a deep dive into the ongoing risks posed by climate change, and it remains a major tool in shaping climate policy that will impact this and future generations. As one of its last acts, the Trump administration has decided to lay waste to this incredibly vital effort.

The administration abruptly dismissed Michael Kuperberg of the U.S. Global Change Research Program without any apparent cause. Kuperberg led the management of the National Climate Assessment. Ryan Maue and David Legates, the men who will now spearhead the effort, have a track record of denial toward climate science and climate change. Among the more notable dangerous claims of the latter: sky-high carbon emissions are actually “good” for the environment. These appointments seem to align with reports that fossil fuel special interests have been pressuring the administration to take more control and reshape the climate assessment for their own ends.

Sign the petition below to demand America’s leaders listen to the will of the people and stop undermining critical science.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Trump,

“[Temperatures are] rising more rapidly than anything modern civilization has experienced…this warming trend can only be explained by human activities, especially emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.”

You met this warning from the last National Climate Assessment with an “I don’t believe it” and an attempt to bury the findings by releasing them over Thanksgiving holiday. Now, you are once again using this national holiday to attack and undermine an absolutely essential weapon in the country’s fight to save the planet. Dismissing the head of the National Climate Assessment and replacing him with men who actively work against everything this important effort tries to accomplish is as dangerous as it is unconscionable.

The public has a right to give their input into who they want to guide the National Climate Assessment into the future. We choose science, we choose truth, and we choose a commitment to ending the existential threat of climate change. Respect this country and leave one of its best tools in capable hands.

Restore the leadership that has sustained and strengthened the National Climate Assessment.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Notice from site: This is false. President Trump has lost the 2020 election and Joe Biden is the President-elect. We are taking the extraordinary step of posting this notice due to the dishonest attacks by Donald Trump on American democracy and the legitimate voting results.

    • What part of Democracy do you not understand, Linda? The vile and evil Trump lost and the world is a far better place because of it. The rest of the world was just stunned that so many of you were stupid enough to vote for him the first time round. You and others like you are obviously beyond hope, if you still think he’s even acceptable, after years of him proving otherwise, with everything he did and said. Thank Goodness sanity has prevailed at last.
