Save the Affordable Care Act and Maintain Health Care for Millions of Americans

Target: Amy Coney Barrett, Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court

Goal: Do not vote in favor of millions of Americans losing health care during a global pandemic.

The US Supreme Court is hearing arguments on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), an Obama-era health care law. The ACA was passed in 2010 and provided access to health care for more than 20 million Americans. Republicans have continuously criticized the ACA, suggesting that it is a federal government overreach. Since its inception, the government has attempted to chip away at the ACA. Recently, the Trump administration has suggested doing away with the whole thing.

The US Supreme Court has heard challenges to the ACA in both 2012 and 2015. Both times, the law was upheld. However, with the recent addition of Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett, this recent review of the ACA will be the first debate in front of a solidly conservative majority on the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court votes to overturn the ACA, tens of millions of Americans could find themselves without health care coverage. Of course, this risk of not having access to medical care is always serious, but it is made more serious by the threat of the coronavirus pandemic.

Healthcare is and should be viewed as a human right in order to prevent unnecessary suffering. Sign this petition to urge Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett to vote to save the ACA and maintain healthcare coverage for millions of Americans.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Associate Justice Barrett,

Healthcare is a human right and any policy or law that can reduce the barriers to accessing medical care should be upheld. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) resulted in 20 million Americans who were previously uninsured gaining access to health care coverage. This should be viewed as a success, especially in a developed country where citizens should be able to depend on their government to prioritize their access to medical care.

The ACA has been hotly debated since it was written into law and has faced the scrutiny of the Supreme Court two times before. Again, it is being brought to debate in front of the Supreme Court during a global pandemic. I urge you to vote in favor of the American people and to help continue health care coverage for millions of Americans by upholding the ACA.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
