Don’t Lift Mask Mandate While Coronavirus Cases Still Surge

Target: Tate Reeves, Governor of Mississippi

Goal: Don’t lift Mississippi’s mask mandate while coronavirus cases continue to rise.

The statewide mask mandate in Mississippi was lifted thanks to a recent decision by Governor Tate Reeves. This comes despite rising case rates in several counties.

In explanation of his decision, Governor Reeves said, “We should not use the heavy hand of government more than it is justified.” However, many health officials and concerned citizens argue that a mask mandate is still justified given a surge in cases in several Mississippi counties. The expired mandate also includes eased social distancing restrictions, allowing for 50 percent attendance at school events and in movie theaters.

The United States desperately needs a nationwide commitment to wearing face coverings in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Sign below to demand Governor Reeves prioritize public health and reverse his decision to lift the mask mandate.

Dear Governor Reeves,

Now is not the time for a lackluster response to a pandemic that has now killed over a million people worldwide, due to the continuous spread of the coronavirus throughout the country.

Lifting the requirement for face coverings too soon will only cause cases to rise again. In order to prioritize public health, I demand that you reverse your decision to let the mask mandate expire and instead require coverings until the coronavirus is adequately resolved.
