Drop Unfair Charges Against Pro-Democracy Protester

Target: Teresa Cheng, Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong

Goal: Demand abusive legal charges against pro-democracy protest leader be dropped.

Veteran Hong Kong student protest leader Joshua Wong has been subjected to yet another round of bullying, absurd legal charges in China’s ongoing effort to silence calls for democratic reform. Wong, who has been imprisoned more than half a dozen times for his involvement in protests, has now been charged with violating a ban on face coverings, despite apparently wearing a mask to protect himself from the risk of COVID-19 infection.

Furthermore, for his activities this year, Wong has been barred from running for public office in Hong Kong, a clear violation of his human rights as well as both Hong Kong and Chinese law. The continued abuse of those who speak up for human rights and democracy is an affront to the world. Demand that these charges be dropped by signing the petition letter below.

Dear Secretary Cheng,

As Hong Kong’s government enters its sixth year of bullying and attacking pro-democracy activists, the fresh charges which Joshua Wong faces are tiresome, predictable, and an obvious violation of Hong Kong and international law. Choosing to interpret the ban on face coverings even as billions of people now wear masks regularly is a blatant attempt to abuse Mr. Wong and makes a mockery of the law. I demand that these charges be dropped immediately.
