Trump: Do Not Deport Legal Immigrants Who Contribute to Economy

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Do not deport legal immigrants who support the US economy.

Donald Trump and his administration are ending humanitarian protections for hundreds of thousands of immigrants. Many have lived in the United States for decades and have built a life here, contributing to the economy and raising families. These immigrants will be affected as Trump phases out Temporary Protected Status or TPS for immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Sudan. This not only means that incoming immigrants will not have humanitarian protection, but that those who entered the US under these protective measures will have to make plans to leave, abandoning their lives in the US, as early as January 2021.

Those opposing the decision have said that Trump’s past criticism of non-white, non-European immigrants, like the denunciation of people immigrating from what Trump referred to as “shithole countries,” influenced the decisions around removing Temporary Protected Status. Ahilan Arulanantham, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, said that the decision to end Temporary Protected Status is “deeply flawed.” TPS, as it stands, is a way for people to legally immigrate into the US when their home country experiences a natural disaster, armed conflict, or other extraordinary event. It allows these immigrants to legally work and contribute to the US economy. Additionally, those protected by TPS have to periodically renew their status. TPS does not represent an unchecked immigration pathway.

Sign this petition to urge President Trump to stop the forthcoming deportation of immigrants who legally entered the US under Temporary Protected Status.

Dear President Trump,

Immigrants have and are the backbone of the United States. They contribute to the economy and our cultural melting pot. Legal means of immigration should not be limited or stopped because of personal feelings of xenophobia. The hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have entered the United States under Temporary Protected Status have fled their countries for extraordinary reasons and set their sights on the American dream, working legally and building families over decades in the US.

I urge you to stop the forthcoming deportation 2021 by supporting Temporary Protected Status for immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Sudan.

  1. Evan Jane Kriss says:

Immigrants do the back breaking, least desirable work that is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to keep the country running. It’s time to acknowledge this and to treat them with respect and pay them fairly.

  2. Evil Trump. Why don’t you disappear forever?

  3. People. Do you really understand what you are reading here? Do you realize the petition says Trump is deporting LEGAL immigrants? Under the leadership of Trump the department of Homeland Security, ICE and other agencies are deporting ILEGAL immigrants. DO YOU REALLY WANT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN THE US? Think of a person walking your hometown streets, where your children’s go to school, a person that does not exist. A person that has no fingerprints, name social security, driver license, someone completely invisible to the authorities. This person could be a honest worker, but how do you know? It could also be a rapist, child molester or murderer, drug dealer. How do you know anything about this person. I think anyone opposing the legal process of immigration to the US is either a very ignorant person or an enemy of the United States. Read and understand petitions and other media trash before you react to it, or even worst, sign it.
