Stop the Brutal Murder of Women Across Turkey

Target: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey

Goal: Protect women from gender-based violence.

Fifteen women were killed in a span of ten days across Turkey. Many of these women were murdered by men, while others’ deaths remain unsolved and “suspicious.” Gender-based violence is a plague that has rocked the nation and forced women to live in fear. Demand a change.

The Istanbul Convention, which Turkey signed in 2012, attempts to protect women from violence and prosecute the individuals responsible for these brutal crimes. However, the government is planning to remove itself from the convention, despite the fact that rape and femicide are on the rise. Some of the men accused of this violence have been released without charge. Many of the men responsible are government authorities.

The women across Turkey must be protected. Sign the petition to demand that Turkey remain part of the Istanbul Convention so that women can find the protections and justice they deserve.

Dear President Erdogan,

Violence against women is on the rise in your country. Fifteen women were murdered in a span of only ten days. Many others have been raped and brutalized, mainly by authorities in uniform. The women of your nation live in fear.

The Istanbul Convention is the only means of protecting these women and bringing their attackers to justice. To drop out of the convention now, when violence is at its highest, will only mean more bloodshed and no justice system to protect them. I demand that you remain in the Istanbul Convention and work to protect women from brutal violence.
