Implement Harsher Punishments for Animal Cruelty Offenders

Target: Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak

Goal: Implement harsher animal cruelty laws and penalties in Nevada.

First and second animal cruelty offenses in Nevada are considered misdemeanors. In fact, a person who commits an act of animal cruelty for the second time can receive no more than six months in prison. Besides this punishment, the person will only receive a small fine and 100 to 200 hours of community service. These laws need to become stricter so that less animals will suffer at the hands of cruel owners.

Animal cruelty is not considered a felony until the third offense. Recently, citizens claimed that the owners of one dog were not held accountable for their actions. Lily died after allegedly being chained up in scorching 115-degree heat. Witnesses said she was stuck outside with no access to shade or water, and that she had lost her ability to bark. Anyone who leaves a dog outside in weather this hot deserves at least five years behind bars, which is currently the maximum prison sentence for a third time offense. Sign this petition to stand up for mistreated pets and to demand Nevada strengthen their animal cruelty laws immediately.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Sisolak,

A person can commit two prior animal cruelty offenses before such a crime is considered a felony in the state of Nevada. If the laws do not change, many more pets will likely become victims of animal abuse.

A person who has committed a first-time animal cruelty offense may only be required to spend two days in prison, instead of the maximum six-month time period allowed for this crime. Even for a second offense, the law only requires that a person spend six months in prison at most.

It was recently reported that one dog named Lily died, because her owners allegedly left her outside in 115-degree heat. She reportedly was not provided with water, or any shaded areas where she could rest. Instead, Lily allegedly died alone while chained up in someone’s backyard. According to reports, nobody was held responsible for Lily’s untimely death. Community members are therefore now protesting in an effort to ensure Nevada enacts tougher animal cruelty laws. People found guilty of inexcusable animal abuse should receive a lengthy prison sentence the first time such an act is committed. For these reasons, we demand that you support and advocate for more stringent animal cruelty laws in your state.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Nothing is going to change until we get MUCH STRICTER WITH PENALTIES & PRISON SENTENCES! SIGNED & SHARED! What is wrong with our law makers .These poor animals don’t ask for this kind of treatment
Would you ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN TO YOUR PET OR CHILD? JUST THINK IF THEY CAN DO THESE TINGS TO AND ANIMAL WHAT ELSE CAN THEY BE CAPABLE OF??

  3. All animal abusers internationally must have the mandatory death penalty implemented.Prison and or a fine is not acceptable.

What the fuck is wrong with Nevada? Why isn’t this heinous crime, indeed any animal abuse, a felony? Make this legislation happen immediately. I cannot understand why we don’t throw these aberrants in jail without hesitation. We don’t want these scumbags on our streets or in our societies. What is wrong with the legislators – are they animal abusers themselves?

  5. The offence of animal cruelty should not be a matter for individual states. The welfare of animals in Nevada is no less important than in any other.

  6. Evan Jane Kriss says:

Animals are LIVING BEINGS who suffer pain as we do. We need STRONGER LAWS AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY EVERYWHERE NOW.

  7. Lisa Finnigan says:

Having stricter laws is only effective if they are enforced!

  8. There should be very harsh punishments and extremely hefty fines and removing the EVIL POS from society forever. IMO

  9. Strengthen the laws because Animals must have every protection possible! The courts always let innocent animals down and this cannot morally continue!!!! Protect all animals from hideous cruelty!!!!

  10. All animal torturers and animal murderers must be brought to Justice and sentenced to death. This must be introduced into the Animal Protection Laws. It is the only way that these vile and evil psyclowlife monsters from hell can be stopped from their sadism and evilness.
