Investigate Deaths of Dozens of Dolphins Near Oil Spill Site

Target: Pravind Jugnauth, Prime Minister of Mauritius

Goal: Determine whether deaths of marine life are due to recent oil spill.

At least 40 dolphins have died in Mauritius’ Mahebourg Lagoon, a protected wildlife sanctuary affected by a recent oil spill from the MV Wakashio, a grounded Japanese oil tanker. Cleanup efforts have proceeded slowly as responsibility for the accident and recovery have been debated. Meanwhile, untold amounts of chemicals used for oil transportation and operation of ships’ equipment have seeped into the pristine waters off Mauritius’ coast, posing a serious threat to wildlife.

For three days in late August, local conservationists and fishermen have observed dozens of dolphins, both adults and juvenile, mysteriously die tragic, painful deaths in the waters of Mahebourg. Previously, these animals were thriving, and while the oil spill can’t currently be conclusively proven as the cause of the deaths, the geographical and chronological circumstances are too strong to be merely coincidental. Sign below and add your voice to those of thousands of Mauritians in demanding a full investigation into the deaths of these innocent creatures.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister,

The devastating deaths of nearly 40 dolphins in the waters of Mahebourg Lagoon have rightly outraged thousands of Mauritians who have demanded justice from those responsible for the MV Wakashio spill. The presence of oil in this lagoon, as well as the suspiciously recent deaths, suggest a substantial case for searching for a possible cause of death originating in the spill. I demand that you initiate a full investigation to determine what killed these dolphins and to protect other animals that may be at risk.

Sincerely,

Investigate these deaths immediately. Once complete, take responsibility for this tragic and grotesque example of human greed and indifference. We are our own killers and it would be a mercy to this planet if we were not in it. I am ashamed of the human species; there is no reason for these horrible incidents. None.

  2. “You can first get a camel through the eye of a needle than a rich man makes it to the kingdom of God” The world is falling apart, there are plenty of ecosystem friendly options for energy out there to explore and these oil tycoons continue to kill our planet for the sake of money. If you can see my posting and are one of the ones mentioned? “I rather eat of the floor with the swine than seat at a table with one of you”

  3. Instigation of the mandatory death penalty must be applied to all animal abusers.I am ready, willing and able to help perform this procedure ensuring a slow and agonising death is attended.

  4. Am sure they know what happened and just don’t care…IN MY OPINION
