Stop the Brutal Murders of Philippine Human Rights Activists

Gun - Rudy van der Veen

Target: Jose Calida, Solicitor General, Philippines

Goal: Stop the extrajudicial killings of human rights lawyers and activists.

Thirteen human rights activists from the same organization have been brutally murdered in the Philippines, and their killers are still at large. They are joined by an additional 90 individuals from across the island of Negros to be killed by suspected government forces. Demand that these brutal murders stop.

The Philippine rights group Karapatan has seen over a dozen members murdered since Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte took office. Remaining members face daily threats and are left isolated in their homes. Even a trip to a grocery store could result in their murder.  Duterte has cracked down on human rights activists, accusing them of communism. Farmers, lawyers, and other civilians have also been killed.

These vigilante killings must come to an end. Sign the petition to demand a government investigation into these murders and call for the capture of those responsible for these brutal slayings.

Dear Solicitor General Calida,

Since 2016, 13 human rights workers with Karapatan have been brutally murdered in the streets of Negros. Their slayings are among over 90 in total across the island. These vigilante killings must come to an end. Your nation is enveloped in fear, and it is up to your organization to find and charge these killers.

I demand that you launch an investigation into these murders. Seek out the killers and hold them accountable for this brutal bloodshed.
