Target: Winfried Kretschmann, President of the German Parliament (Bundesrat)
Goal: Thank the German Parliament for criminalizing the use of an animal for personal sexual activities
Last year the German Parliament (Bundesrat) proposed legislation that would effectively criminalize sexual acts with animals. Germany has felt increasing pressure over the past decade by animal rights organizations because of its failure to punish such acts and the country deserves our praise for finally making it a reality.
The Bundesrat recently voted on the bill, the final step in its approval, and it has been added as an amendment to the country’s current animal protection law. The amendment states: “using an animal for personal sexual activities or making them available to third parties for sexual activities and thereby forcing them to behave in ways that are inappropriate to their species.” The ban will carry with it misdemeanor charges, possible jail time, and up to $34,000 in fines.
One of the many reasons for Germany’s delay in finally passing a bill to put an end to bestiality is a never-ending debate between animal rights organizations and the many German zoophile groups like Zoophilic Engagement for Tolerance and Enlightenment (ZETA), who argue that there are circumstances in which these acts are not abusive. Thankfully, the animal rights groups succeeded in pleading their case and those who do not have a voice with which to defend themselves will be given the protection they deserve.
Please take a moment to sign the petition below and thank Germany’s Bundesrat for finally criminalizing bestiality.
Dear President Kretschmann,
The Bundesrat recently passed legislation that now makes any sexual act involving an animal illegal. Sexual abuse with an animal is no different than that with a human. It should always be a crime to force anything to act against its will or own personal interest.
Germany has received a great deal of criticism from around the world in recent years for its policies–or lack thereof–regarding bestiality. Thank you for listening and adding this amendment that will help protect those who cannot help themselves. It is our job as humans to defend animals because they cannot defend themselves from negligent human interests on their own.
