Protect Endangered Butterfly from Expanding Ski Resort

Target: Aurelia Skipwith, Director, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

Goal: Protect the Mount Charleston blue butterfly from extinction at the hands of expanding development.

A rapidly expanding ski resort may mean extinction for the Mount Charleston blue butterfly, of which there are only 100 left in the wild. Sign the petition to add your voice to that of conservationists around the country demanding protection for the species.

The expansion of a ski resort in Nevada’s Lee Canyon would include mountain bike trails and a “mountain coaster.”  Picnic areas and campgrounds have also been planned. Summer is the main season for the species. To expand a ski resort into year-round operations will prove damaging.

The butterfly was added to the endangered species list in 2013. Conservationists say this new development violates this act. Sign the petition to demand that the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service block this dangerous and deadly expansion.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Skipwith,

Since the Mount Charleston blue butterfly was added to the endangered species list in 2013, fewer than 100  butterflies have been seen in the wild. Development threatened the species and led to its decline. Its newfound protections were supposed to prevent further destruction. By allowing a ski resort to expand into year-round outdoor operations, the species will surely face extinction.

Conservationists are suing your organization and demanding you block the expansion of this ski resort to help protect the species. I add my voice to their fight. Protect the Mount Charleston blue butterfly from extinction.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
