Demand Resignation of Oppressive Autocratic President

Target: Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus

Goal: Urge a 30-year president to resign and secure a transition to free and fair democratic elections in Belarus.

Protests have erupted in Belarus over President Alexander Lukashenko’s attempt to begin a sixth consecutive term. Lukashenko has held power since 1994, making him the Eastern European nation’s only president ever to hold the office in nearly 30 years. In that time, his regime has become infamous for suppressing dissent, forced disappearances, and election fraud which has resulted in Belarus becoming the least democratic country in Europe by far.

The Belarusian people have had enough. In the recent election there, widespread allegations of vote tampering and ballot box rigging have unleashed the frustration of millions of oppressed people.

Lukashenko is left with a simple choice: step down and allow his people to decide their future for themselves, or cling to power through violence and brutality. Sign the petition below to demand that he make the peaceful decision and end his authoritarian reign.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. President,

For decades, you have ruled Belarus as though it were your personal property, exercising complete control and openly declaring yourself an authoritarian. But after 26 years, your people are fed up. They will no longer allow you to treat them as subjects. To avoid bloodshed and misery, you must give into their wishes and step down.

I urge you to appoint an election commission and work with opposition leaders to lay the groundwork for a transfer of power. I demand that you then step down and surrender yourself to justice.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
