Protect the Environment From Harmful Methane Emissions

Target: Andrew Wheeler, Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Reverse your decision to weaken regulations on the release of toxic methane emissions.

Restrictions on the release of the climate-warming gas, methane, will be weakened thanks to a recent decision by the Trump administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The new rule eliminates federal requirements that oil and gas companies must install technology to detect and fix methane leaks from wells, pipelines and storage sites.

EPA officials cite Covid-19 as their reasoning for weakening restrictions, claiming that the new rule will free the industry from “crippling regulations” during a time of economic strife. However, this deregulation has been in the works for over a year, long before the coronavirus caused an economic downturn for the oil and gas industry.

Loosening methane emissions could have serious consequences in the fight against climate change. In addition, it could put public health at further risk during the spread of a global respiratory virus. Sign below to demand the EPA reverse their decision to weaken regulations on the release of toxic methane emissions.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Wheeler,

The environment is already overburdened with toxic pollution that is increasing the worst effects of climate change and threatening public health. Especially during the spread of a deadly respiratory virus, allowing the unregulated release of methane pollution is dangerous and inhumane.

It is due time that you put the planet and public health before the economic well-being of the oil and gas industry. I demand that you reverse your decision to weaken regulations on the release of toxic methane gas.

Sincerely,

Serious health and safety concerns not only to human life but to wildlife and our environment as a whole. From the ground to the air we breath should be closely monitored. Weakening restrictions for big corporations who spill toxins in the ground and who pollute our air would only cause more harmful affects.

Well put and I agree. Trump and his cronies have done NOTHING but worsen a situation that is getting worse by the day. However, this issue is a WORLD matter and the WORLD must get their act together to help with this disastrous climate, land, animal, ocean, human, etc. cycle.

  2. Judging from the low standards the Trump Administration has set for emissions from factories to vehicles, it’s apparent they just don’t give a crap about anyone or anything except the keeping the big corporations happy.
