Investigate Police Accused of Ignoring Pleas for Help From Brutalized Minorities

Target: Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law and Justice, India

Goal: Investigate and bring to justice police officers who reportedly ignored requests for aid from Muslim victims of nationalist violence.

Muslim citizens of India have been subjected to violence and community-wide attacks while being unjustly charged with crimes, a recent report has found. The mobs incited to attack Indian Muslims by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not be charged, per reports, while those they attacked have been arrested simply for defending their homes, businesses, and families.

Following demonstrations in favor of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act that stripped many Muslims of the Indian nationality which they have every right to claim, supporters of the BJP rioted in Muslim communities, committing terrible acts of violence and destruction. When police seemingly refused to help the attacked communities, Indian Muslims took matters into their own hands, only to be arrested and charged with crimes while their attackers walked free.

This reported misconduct represents the most grotesque discrimination possible, in which Hindus are favored over Muslims and given permission to visit violence upon their neighbors. Sign the petition below to demand that justice be served.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Prasad,

To charge Indian Muslims with violent crimes while allowing their attackers to walk free is the worst example of sham justice. The government of India has seemingly allowed attacks on Indian Muslims to take place with no intervention from police, who are sworn to protect all Indian citizens regardless of their faith.

I demand that you investigate and bring to justice all those found responsible, among police and the political establishment, for inciting and tolerating violence against peaceful Indian citizens.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
