Justice for Centennial Turtle Nearly Snatched and Trafficked

Target: Jonathan W. Blodgett, District Attorney of Essex County, Massachusetts

Goal: Punish individual responsible for malicious injury to wild turtle.

Animal abusers are actively on the hunt in one Massachusetts town. On the heels of a turtle and a rabbit being cruelly targeted in a crossbow attack,  a large, century-old snapping turtle that has become a beloved fixture in the community was discovered with a hook embedded in the face. This incident represents the second such injury–and attempted kidnapping– the turtle has endured.

Authorities believe someone tried to snatch the snapping turtle in a botched wildlife trafficking for profit attempt. A few months earlier, the same turtle surfaced with hooks sticking from the head. These devices may have become embedded as the unknown perpetrator attempted to lift the hefty turtle out of the water.

This incident could have resulted in serious injury both times, and such crimes should be treated with the urgency they deserve. Sign the petition below to demand just punishment in this cruel act.

Dear Mr. Blodgett,

At least three regional wild animals were harmed in seemingly deliberate acts of animal cruelty. Crossbow attacks injured a turtle and a rabbit, while a community fixture turtle endured a second set of injuries from another attempt to snatch him from his habitat. This disturbing pattern of callous disregard for wildlife must end.

While information is being sought in the crossbow incidents, the wildlife trafficking attempt merits a similar response. Support a full investigation into this disturbing act. When the perpetrator is identified, please prosecute all involved parties to the fullest extent of the law.

When you catch these soulless assholes, I volunteer to shove fish hooks into their flesh so they can get a clue as to the pain they are inflicting on HELPLESS creatures.
