Offer Immediate Food Aid to Families With Malnourished Children

Target: Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, United Kingdom

Goal: Provide food and subsidies to families of thousands of malnourished children in England.

Almost 2,500 children have been hospitalized for malnutrition in England, revealing the grave struggle many families are facing in securing food. This is twice as many malnourished UK children under the age of 16 as were recorded in the whole of 2019. As the UK has weathered a widespread lockdown without adequate assistance for disadvantaged households, the number of families unable to afford basic necessities has increased.

While the lockdown is necessary to protect public health, it must be accompanied by help for the most vulnerable members of British society. Rather than extend a helping hand to these families, the current government has left them to go hungry and to expose their children to risk and harm in hospital wards. Sign the petition below to demand that these families be given the assistance they should have had for months.

Dear Secretary Hancock,

Thousands of young children are facing treatment for malnutrition in hospitals simply because their families have been cut off from vital food supplies during COVID-19. Rather than help these households to secure a basic human right, your government has stood by and let it happen.

In one of the wealthiest nations on earth, this is inexcusable. I demand that you offer food supplies and funds to the families of these children and all others at risk.
